WOH For December 9, 2014
Wonderful Counselor by Marie Tornow, Preschool Director
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
Proverbs 11:14 Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. John 16:7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
coun•sel•or
noun \ˈkau̇n(t)-s(ə-)lər\
: a person who provides advice as a job : a person who counsels people
: a person who is in charge of young people at a summer camp
The recent world, national and local news can dampen and discourage us. The push to buy and acquire more stuff can be overwhelming. Health issues, job and relationships can be in real trouble. How do we cope with all this? As always, if we turn to the Lord in prayer, read His word and trust in His plan for us, we can find relief. As the verses above tell us, He is always there, ready to listen, to give guidance and hope. He is our Wonderful Counselor! He sent His Holy Spirit to counsel us after He went to heaven!
I have had the pleasure of working along with the Hope teachers now for years, and see our children surrounded by many counselors. These teachers spend hours in preparation, thoughtful planning and passionate delivery of their knowledge. The counseling they do is done every day, with genuine love, compassion, patience and Christian guidance creating that safety spoken of in Proverbs.
We all long for good news! There is Good News! The Mighty God, Prince of Peace and Wonderful Counselor is being celebrated on Christmas Day! Please join the Early Childhood Department in spreading the word! Our Advent Program “C.H.R.I.S.T.M.A.S. IS COMING” will be on December 12 at 6:30 in the sanctuary. All are welcome. May your heart be filled and alive in the Spirit of Christmas!

Santa’s Workshop
Are you looking for a fun way to teach your child how to give to others at Christmas? Our school lunchroom has been transformed into Santa’s workshop. Hope’s Church Human Care Ministry is wrapping over 1500 gifts that will be given to families from our local public schools. Stop by with your child anytime (morning, noon or night) this week and wrap a few gifts! Share in the joy of giving!
Lunchroom Furniture Donations
Last weekend, the Women’s Ministry Team at Hope Church hosted their annual “Gifts & Goodies” sale to raise money for both missions and for new chairs and round tables for the Fellowship Hall, which is where school lunches are now located. Almost $5000 in total was raised, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans matched $1000 to it! We are still short of our goal to replace all of the chairs and add round tables, which will help create a more family-like environment. If you would be willing to donate toward this effort we may be able to complete the entire project. The chairs are $55 each and there is a poster in the school lobby showing the chairs we plan to purchase. Could you buy a chair (or two, or even half of a chair)? Just write your check to Hope Lutheran School and write “chairs” in the memo line. Thank you for your support!
