Coaching by Kristen Okabayashi
Like many of you, I am a huge Seahawks fan. It’s hard not to be a fan now, right? But I’ve lived in the greater Seattle area most of my life, and even through what we’ll call the “not-so-good” years of crumbling tiles in the Kingdome, bad teams, and Brian Bosworth, we cheered the Seahawks on. Some of you may remember the not so flattering nickname of the “Sea Chickens”, which is how my stepdad fondly referred to them. Those years of challenging teams make us appreciate the current Seahawk success even more though!
The Seahawks have accumulated players of amazing talent the past couple years. Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch, and Richard Sherman are all household names. And how about Kam Chancellor’s performance in last Saturday’s game?!? But as wonderful as these players are, my favorite Seahawk is Pete Carroll as a coach. In the world of football coaching where so many coaches seem negative, Pete clearly stands out as a positive force. Where other coaches are yelling or frowning, it seems that he is always having a good time as a coach. Sometimes he seems like a giant kid because he gets so excited when the team has a good play! And if there are bad plays, which of course happen too and they need to be addressed, he can be seen talking softly to the player, maybe with his arm around him, instead of berating or screaming at him. Of course, I have no idea what he is like in real life, but from what is visible to the average fan like me, I absolutely love him! I’m sure there is a lot we could all learn from him as leaders and as people.
Go Seahawks!

Lutheran Schools Week – Jan. 25-30
Lutheran Schools week is coming January 25-30! The National theme for this year is “Standing in Christ Serving Others”. The week will begin with our Sunday worship services celebrating Lutheran schools. Then, each morning the students will participate in an online mission trip each day to Latvia. Wednesday, Jan. 28, we will have a joint chapel service at Seattle Lutheran along with Concordia Lutheran School. Throughout the week students will participate in an on campus service project. It is going to be a great week. All the chapel offerings for this month will go to support the ministry work in Latvia.
Seahawks Spirit Day Friday
As the Seahawks continue to compete in the playoffs, we invite students to show their support with Blue Friday again this Friday, January 16. Feel free to wear Seahawk apparel and colors to cheer on our favorite football team! This Friday is a free dress day so students not dressing up can wear free dress.
