Words of Hope for Tuesday, April 8, 2014
Preschool Science and Exploration by Marie Tornow, Preschool Director
There is a lot of science going on in the preschool department! As all our elementary classes are preparing for our Academic Fair, the preschoolers are getting ready as well. The Sea stars (3s) have been creating lots of color mixing, rainbow and weather chart study; the Orcas and Dolphins (4s) are getting introduced to the water cycle, the properties of water and even reporting the weather in their own weather station!
Along with these spring activities, we as a preschool department are planning some new and exciting activities for our preschool garden classroom! One of the things the kids enjoy so much (and learn so much from) is the use of water! Currently, we use the water from the spigot to fill up our water pump, water our plants and create rivers, dams, mud pies, and stews. We would like to be better stewards of this resource; so we have an idea to capture some of the free rain water by putting a roof on our trellised stage area, send the water into a gutter and into a rain barrel. What a wonderful lesson this will be for the kiddos as well! Other ideas we would like to implement include creating a covering for our trikes and an outdoor art and sound area. Preschool is thrilled to have a garden that teaches and nurtures nature. Our little plot of land is in need of some supplemental compost, potting soil and fertilizer. We would like to grow enough to share produce with those in need as well as support the environmental and science learning of three preschool classes. During the school year, students will start seeds, plant them and get them going. During the summer, we could use some help watering and harvesting! When the kids return in the fall, we can collect seeds, harvest and share the bounty.
If any of you would like to contribute resources or skills toward any of our ideas, please contact me or the preschool teachers. Thank you so much!

Walk-a-Thon Postponed
PTH has decided to reschedule the upcoming May walk-a-thon to Fall 2014, mostly because of the high number of events coming up needing volunteers as well as all the people who volunteered countless hours on our auction. If you are interested in helping with the walk-a-thon in fall 2014, please contact PTH President Beth Grotelueschen at beth@bethghomes.com.
Do You Have This Auction Certificate?
The auction committee was recently notified of an item (Young At Art Birthday package, item #376) that was not received by the auction winner. It was sent home by mistake with someone else, however we are unable to determine who that person was. If you happened to receive this auction item the night of the auction would you please return to the school office or email Kelly Gorman at ck1gorman@comcast.net to make arrangements. Thank you.
