Orange Ruler Fun Run by Kristen Okabayashi
As you know, over the past two weeks, Hope School has been raising funds via Orange Ruler, with part of the funds raised going towards our PTH budget (Parents and Teachers of Hope) , and part of the funds going towards a bus for all our students to use. Orange Ruler makes fundraising easy from our perspective, making it simple for parents to invite loved ones to donate to our Fun Run, and making it easy for staff and PTH to implement because the Orange Ruler organization does everything from drawing names electronically for daily prizes to sending thank you notes to putting on the actual Fun Run. The Fun Run itself is a great opportunity for our students to get some exercise and fresh air, and run around our school with lots of school spirit!
This year, I was especially touched by our classroom winners. Kindergarten had the lead for top class for most of the fundraising period, but 8th grade kept coming back and nipping at their heels, occasionally taking the lead away until kindergarten would get it back. The day that the fundraiser ended, last Thursday, 8th grade made a last minute surge and ended up taking first place overall. Our 8th grade class was thrilled to win but also felt a little badly for our kindergarten class, and so they celebrated together with a cookie party the next day. I was personally very touched that our 8th grade families were the winners. If any class will benefit the least from this fundraiser, it is our 8th grade class. And yet, they were the ones that gave it their all. I asked one of our 8th grade parents why she donated, and she said that she loved Hope, her son has had an amazing experience here as a student, and they wanted to give back in some tangible way, so that other students could continue to love Hope as well. Very inspirational!
Thank you to all of you for supporting this fundraiser and supporting our students. We just made our goal of $25,000, which we are thrilled about! With the money dedicated towards a bus fund from last year’s Fun Run in addition to the money from this year that is dedicated towards the bus fund, we raised enough to look at purchasing a used bus. However, we have been very blessed to receive a generous donation from one of our Hope families, which is allowing us to consider busses on the newer side. Thank you to that family as well as the many of you, along with your friends and family, for supporting our school and our students. We appreciate it tremendously!

Hope School Open House Dates
Spread the word! Invite your neighbors, friends and family to visit and meet our amazing staff, tour the school and learn more about the great programs here at Hope. Referrals by our current families are still the most impactful way in which we are introduced to new families. In your yellow envelope you have a postcard to share with another family. And you are welcome to attend any of our open houses as well. Dates are as follows: November 3 Kindergarten Information Night, November 17th All School Open House, and January 12 Preschool Open House.
Hope Food Drive to Fill the Closet
Hope School student council is sponsoring a food drive to benefit our community and our Hope Church food closet. Food will be collected November 9-20, 2015. Please consider how you can be a blessing to those in need, and donate to our food drive. We are looking for donations of all canned food, and especially ready-to-eat foods such as granola bars, canned meat, flop-top canned fruit, etc. The winning classroom is decided by the average donation per student and will earn a free dress pass for a day. Thank you!
Uniform Reminders
Please be sure to visit our parent handbook online or via hard copy to review uniform guidelines, especially our newer families. As the weather gets chillier, remember that students can wear heavy coats or non-Hope sweatshirts into school and outside at recess, but they need to remove them during the day. If your child gets cold easily, you may also order a uniform sweatshirt through Lands’ End. If students have the zip up hooded jacket that zips over their face, they need to leave that unzipped at school. If you have specific questions about uniforms, please contact your student’s teacher or the school office.
After School Clubs
Beginning in November, due to the busyness of Tuesday clubs, Ms. Tagge’s math club is moving days to the first Monday of the month instead of the first Tuesday of the month. In addition, we are thrilled to have a parent, Mr. Buckley, to lead chess club for grades 2-8 on the first and third Monday of each month, beginning on November 2nd.
NED Assembly
Thanks to your support in purchasing yoyo items, we were not only able to pay-it-forward, allowing another school to have this awesome assembly, but we were also able to purchase 8 new jump ropes and incentive items for our library. Thank you!
