Admissions by Sally Heit, Admissions Director
Happy New Year and welcome to 2016! Time has certainly flown by fast. We hope you enjoyed the holiday season and relaxing with loved ones. As much as it is nice to be out of the normal “routine,” it is also nice to be back in it, so we hope your family is adjusting well during this first week back.
As we sailed into Christmas break, first trimester had ended and report cards were sent home. New Hope logo apparel was distributed, and we were treated to three concerts and one play by our talented students! It was a fantastic way to end the year and celebrate the season.
Second trimester is well under way, and January is proving to be very busy month as we start 2016. Hope school will attend the West Seattle Preschool Association Preschool Fair January 11th as well as host our own Preschool Open House January 12th for new families looking for a high quality preschool program for their child. Reenrollment for current families also begins with information and materials going home January 12th. We look forward to welcoming back all our families for the coming fall. LEST (Lutheran Elementary Schools Tournament) is fast approaching in February and students in 5th grade and up are busy preparing for basketball, Lego Robotics, music, art, writing, chess, swimming and many more fun competitions. And before you know it, we’ll be celebrating Hope School at the Great Gatsby Gala April 9th! A general auction meeting will be held January 14th at 6:30 in the Commons if you would like to help make this event a BIG success.
Lots to be thankful for as we kick off 2016!

Believe Orders Follow Up
If you have questions or concerns regarding your Believe order you can contact their customer service department directly at 1-888-816-1116 or email service@believekids.com. Again, thank you for your support of this PTH fundraiser.
Hope School Apparel
At the beginning of Christmas break we handed out the new Hope Apparel. We have now received the Hope Car Flags and Bag Tags. If you ordered either of these items, please see Shari or Sally in the school office to receive your item. We do have plenty of the flags and bag tags available if you missed out on purchasing them. Also, there are extra youth hoodies and shirts available.
LEST Update
5th – 8th grade families who are attending LEST this year, please remember to book your hotel rooms for LEST as soon as possible, no later than January 15, 2016 as the discounted rate block will be released then. Rooms can be reserved by calling the hotel directly at (503) 460-3000 no later than January 15, 2016 or until the room block is gone. We have heard that rooms are filling up.
We hope to hear from Concordia Portland mid-January with a tentative schedule of LEST events. Please note that opening ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday afternoon due to Concordia hosting basketball games Thursday evening, and the cheer/dance competition will be Friday afternoon this year, not Thursday night. Girls and boys basketball games will be Thursday and Friday, with possible Saturday games as well. If you have other scheduling questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Okabayashi at kokabayashi@hopeseattle.org or your child’s event coach.
Go Eagles!
School Re-Accreditation Update
The school staff has been hard at work on re-accreditation by the NLSA (National Lutheran Schools Association). One very important part of this process is evaluating our relationship with the parents and students of Hope. A 40-question survey has been created in order to gather your opinions on topics of interest by the NLSA, along with asking our students and staff to share their thoughts. It should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes. We will be sending out an email next week with the provided link to all parents and guardians, and students in grades 1-8 will have their survey administered during technology class. Your feedback is not only important to the accreditation process but important to the administration at Hope so that we may continue to improve the many opportunities, curriculum, and enrichment programs we provide. Thank you for helping us with this important process.
Parent Workshop – Tuesday, January 26 at 6:30 – 8 p.m. Hope Commons
All parents are invited to this special event – It’s way bigger than puberty. Greg Smallidge of Great Conversations will lead a conversation about staying connected with your children and not getting fired from being their sexuality educator. Please RSVP for this worth-your-time complimentary event to pth@hopeseattle.org.
Seahawk Support – Friday, January 8
Student council invites all students to celebrate the Seahawks’ football playoff game this weekend with Seahawk Friday! This week on Friday, January 8, students may wear Seahawk apparel or Seahawk colors of blue and green to show support for our Hawks. This is an optional spirit day and students not wearing Seahawk apparel or colors will need to come in school uniforms as usual, as it is not a free dress day. Go Seahawks!
THANK YOU!!!
Thank you so much to the families who sent in cards, treats, and other gifts to Mrs. Wallace, Mrs. Heit and Mrs. Okabayashi for Christmas. We appreciate your thoughtfulness and we feel the love!
