WOH For Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018

The Joy of the Lord is My Strength by Kristen Okabayashi

Happy First Day of School at Hope! As I write this, it’s been a wonderful first day so far. From hearing our students’ voices singing our opening song of “My Lighthouse” during chapel, to our new Sea Turtles preschool class enjoying their new wooden castle, to so many parents joining us for our PTH sponsored “Boohoo/Yahoo” party at drop-off this morning, to just something as simple as one of our new sixth grade students pointing out his brand new Adidas which are just for school, altogether those moments make my heart so full as a principal. As much as we focus on academics and learning, sometimes those smaller instances are the ones that stick with me the most.

Our school theme this year is “The Joy of the Lord is My Strength” from Nehemiah 8:10. The verse stems from the reminder that the joy we feel is from the Kingdom. We are all put together at Hope this year to share in this joy and delight! It will be an amazing school year.

Welcome everyone!

Hope FIRST Robotics Team

Led by a new Hope parent, Hope Lutheran School plans to start a robotics team to compete in the 2018-2019 FIRST Robotics Lego League competition, open to students in grades 4-8. The mission of FIRST robotics is: “… to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.”

The Lego Robotics competition is composed of three distinct components:

  • The robot game
  • Research project
  • Presentations and judging

Does the thought of conquering a challenge and learning something cool make you excited? Do you want to be part of something much larger than yourself, explore Gods creation and the creative ability He has bestowed on all of us? If this interests you (and/or interests a parent!), please let us know in the school office and we can put you in touch with our parent volunteer Chris Hottes.

Chapel Offering Envelopes

Offerings are collected during our chapel services from the students using their weekly offering envelopes. Hope School continues to sponsor a child, Christopher Tano, through Compassion International. Your students offering envelopes will be sent home each Tuesday starting next week. These offerings allow students to develop a pattern of giving as part of their Christian lives and to share God’s love by supporting missions and charities. Therefore, we encourage students to give from their own money (allowance or other earnings).

Parent Involvement Program or PIP Opportunities

Lunch and Recess Volunteers

Volunteers needed to assist in our lunchroom from 11:40 am-12:50 pm and our lunchtime recess from 12:00-1:05pm. Volunteers will be working with a teacher or staff person and will provide our hard-working teachers with a designated lunch break each day. If you can help with any of these times, please contact Shari Wallace at swallace@hopeseattle.org or (206) 935-8500.

School Savings Day is Coming to Hope School

Every Monday starting September 10th, Mr. Savings (Larry Koltz) will be inside the main entry doors at 8:15 a.m. “Mr. Saving” will be offering a student savings account through LCEF (Lutheran Church Extension Fund). Students will be able to deposit money into the account through a Stamp program. Each stamp is worth $1.00. Once a student has $25 worth of stamps they can open their savings account. For three weeks (until September 24th) the first $12.50 invested will be matched with $12.50 by a member of Hope Church. The account currently pays 3.5% interest up to $1,000 until the student is 18 years old. They can also earn extra credit for good grades and service hours. Don’t wait; take advantage of the match and start saving on September 10th! For additional information contact Larry Koltz at 206.932.8036 or LLkoltz@aol.com.
