Celebrating Community – By Sally Heit, Admissions Director
These last two weeks have been tough for our Hope community. Many tears have been shed. Hugs have been generously given and gratefully received. Cards have been thoughtfully made and gifts donated. The outpouring of love and prayer has been felt and is immensely appreciated during a time that many of us feel fragile and quite simply, sad. Our staff is so thankful for ALL of it.
As we begin Lutheran Schools Week we are celebrating the 1,950 schools and 21,764 teachers that make up 35 districts. I’m grateful for our West Seattle Hope community that has ministered to and educated students for 60 years and will continue to do so for many more years to come. It is a community made up of hard-working, generous parents and dedicated, loving, tireless teachers that work every day to set our students up for success and prepare them for graduation. There are many things special about Hope, and when I’m asked what makes our school more special than any other school in our area, my answer is simple. We are a family, and it is the relationships that we share with our students, teachers and parents and the ability to share our faith with them. We care about every student and their family, which is why a loss of someone in our community is felt deeply. And, it is our faith that keeps us grounded and gives us hope for the future which we get to share with our students.
We celebrate all of these things that make our Lutheran school special this week. This last Sunday our preschoolers and K5-8 students kicked off the week by singing in the 8:00 and 10:30 am worship services, and will be participating in assembling Blessing Bags. Each student will take home a bag to give to someone in need in their community. This is an activity that we have done for several years and one that our students look forward to. The school will also be participating in an online mission trip to Mongolia and handing out Good Neighbor Baskets with treats to our West Seattle community. Feel free to celebrate along with us, and thank you for being a part of this Lutheran school called Hope.
