What’s Your Story? By Shari Wallace, Hope Office Manager
Sunday’s Hope Church messages recently have been on the ministry of Jesus called The Story. This message series has me thinking of God’s ministry at Hope and my part of His story through my time here. I was raised Lutheran so when the question is asked, “How did you come to know God?” I don’t have a clear answer as I’ve been Lutheran my entire life. However, I have several short stories of how God has moved me and those in my life to fulfill our purpose.
God first led me to Hope Lutheran back in 1995 because I wanted a school and church relationship for my family. My son, then in 4th grade, had already taken communion classes at our previous church which Hope hadn’t adopted for his age group yet, so he was the youngest to receive communion. This started some forward thinking within our church Elders and they now offer communion for 4th graders.
Then, in 2003 my friend Shirley Geller was on the Hope school board and learned that the school was in need of another secretary, so she suggested I apply. I’ll be honest; my first response was “you can’t afford me!” But then I truly felt God’s calling in my heart. After a family discussion and agreement we could make the financial adjustment. I interviewed with Principal Peter Renn who currently happens to be on our board of directors, and I was hired.
I have worked with one principal and 4 interim principals prior to the hiring of our fabulous Mrs. O., whom I toured when her boys were entering preschool many years ago. I worked out of the Church library during our last remodel with interim principal Mrs. Meyer, who is now our 7th grade teacher. I’ve been through 3 pastors before the hiring of Pastor Peter. I’ve witnessed the 100 year dedication of the church and watched as Mrs. Heit proudly gathered the story and vision of Hope School’s history to celebrate our schools 60th year anniversary last year. Now, we are making history here at Hope through these unprecedented times as we opened our doors for in school teaching during a pandemic.
How has Hope played a part in your story? I pray our story continues to unite us in Christ, bringing us His Hope. Amen!

Mrs. Wallace Update
Office manager Shari Wallace has been out sick, as unfortunately she broke her knee two weeks ago towards the beginning of the school year. You may have noticed our “Wednesday” office person Rachel Couwenberg answering phones and responding to emails throughout the week. Over the coming seven weeks or so, Mrs. Wallace will take time off as her knee heals, working from home a bit, and slowly transitioning to a return back to work. Thank you to Mrs. Couwenberg for extending hours during this time, and thank you all for your patience during this adjustment time with Mrs. Wallace’s expertise in the office.
