MAP® Growth™ Testing Information byJennifer Neafcy, Assistant Principal
This week, Hope students began testing with MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® . During the month of October and two more times throughout the year, your child will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer or tablet. We give students MAP Growth tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in math, reading, and language (language is available for grades 2-8 only).
In my time in education, I have had experience with different types of standardized assessments that measure student achievement. MAP Growth tests, however, are unique and give a clearer picture of your child’s level of learning, what they already know, and what they are ready to learn. MAP Growth tests are an adaptive test, which means that if your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This pattern is followed until your child’s level is pinpointed by the assessment.
MAP Grow
th tests give teachers detailed information about each child’s learning, and what they are ready to learn, giving the teachers useful and accurate information to plan for instruction in the classroom.
MAP Growth tests will be given two more times this year in January/February and in May. By assessing throughout the year, teachers and parents are provided with growth data for each student. Parents will receive a report after each testing period is completed showing your child’s growth. You can also review these reports with your child’s teacher for more insight.
