Christmas/Advent by Jennifer Neafcy
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! While Christmas is a busy time of the year, it is my favorite time of the year. Each year I look forward to the Christmas concerts, special chapels, dress-up days, parties, special events, and seeing family that I don’t get to see very often. Last week, our preschool and elementary students presented Christmas concerts and programs. After not being able to have any special events or concerts last school year, last week brought tears to my eyes. What a joy it was to hear our students perform and proclaim our Savior’s birth, and to have our sanctuary filled with school families! Tonight, our middle school students will perform under the leadership of Mrs. Kunkel and Mr. Franklin. Our students have worked so hard, and I am looking forward to the musical selections that will be presented.
Our students have also gotten into the Christmas spirit! As I walk through the hallways and the classrooms, I see the excitement and creativity of our students and teachers as they have decorated the classrooms and the hallways. We also have a week of Christmas dress-up days to add to the excitement. I can’t wait to see how our students continue to show their creativity with the remainder of our dress-up days!
As we are approaching our Christmas break, my prayer for each of you is that you are able to reflect on the greatest gift that God has given to us, his son, Jesus, born as a baby for the forgiveness of our sins and for our salvation. We invite you to join us for Christmas Eve worship on December 24 at 4:00 PM, 6:00PM, and 8:00 PM, and on Sunday, December 26 at 10:30 AM.
Blessings to you and your family as you celebrate Christmas this year!
Calling all Eagles: Help us SOAR with a gift to the Eagle Excellence Fund
We only have 17 days left and are $10,500 away from our goal to maximize our gifts to the Eagle Excellence Fund! Will you help us raise $30,000 to support technology and academics at Hope? It’s easy to give on our website or by mailing a check to the school office (4456 42nd Ave SW, Seattle, 98116) by December 31.
Your gift will enable Hope to purchase technology for our classrooms (projectors, smartboards) and for our new Innovation Lab. We’ll also invest in technology curriculum (coding, design) to ensure our students are prepared for the future.
Every gift makes a difference! Thank you for your generosity.

Winter/Christmas Performances
Tonight, middle school music groups will perform “Sounds of Winter” at 7:00 PM. Photographer Richard Figgins will be available to take family photos after the concert in front of the Sanctuary Christmas tree. As a reminder, audiences will be limited to immediate family members only (household members) of the performing class to allow space for all our families to join us. Audience members age 3 and older must remain masked at all times and we encourage everyone to remain socially distanced in household groups as much as possible. Students are encouraged to wear Christmas apparel for the performances.
1st Trimester Report Cards
Your students’ 1st trimester report cards are ready. Report cards will be sent home today, Tuesday, Dec. 14. Please sign the envelope to acknowledge receipt of the report card and return to your students’ homeroom teacher. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you have any questions or concerns. Our middle school Honor Roll certificates will be shared during our 5-8 grade chapel service this Friday.
Lost and Found Items
Our wonderful parent volunteer Amy, has taken our lost and found items home and posted pictures so families can claim their lost items! Please comment on the photo of your found items and it will be brought back to school this week. She will take any unclaimed items to donate during our break.

Inclement Weather Communication
As we head into December, it is the time of year where we sometimes see weather-related delays or closures. We build extra hours into our school year so we do not typically need to make up missed days, including our power outage a couple weeks ago.
For late arrivals or school closure decisions, we make our best effort to communicate changes by 6:30 AM. School closures or late arrivals will be communicated/posted via the follow methods:
- School email to all families
- Social media (Facebook and Instagram)
- Website
- West Seattle blog
- Main TV stations
Keeping students and staff safe is our number one priority. If you do not feel confident transporting your child to school, please wait until it is safe to do so with our blessing.
