Outdoor Education by Tim Allen, 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher

Outdoor Education is one of my absolute favorite times of the year as a teacher. After a two year pandemic hiatus, this year we were blessed to be able to return to Miracle Ranch with our 6th graders.  They had such a great time, learning in many different ways.  They grew as individuals, as a class, and as a greater community of 6th graders along with all the other schools that join us.  Some of the activities they participated in were archery, horseback riding, a nature hike, a trip to a nearby salmon hatchery, bible study, campfires, boating and swimming, and much more!

I personally was the leader of the nature hike station, guiding 12 groups on Wednesday and Thursday through the property, finding hiking trails, avoiding stepping on horse poop, and exploring a recent forest fire area. I recorded almost 30,000 steps each day!!

It was also very fun for me to see the other 6th teachers and some principals from the schools that join us there (Concordia Christian Academy, Concordia Seattle, Faith Lacey, Peace Bremerton, and Zion) and us be able to catch up and talk about how their years are going and how we can all grow our schools and learn from each other’s experiences! I love the opportunity to see all the different 6th graders (and some 5th graders) from the six schools and see how the students are all getting this shared experience that they’ll remember for a long time.

As our school theme this year is Building Community in Christ, I know that all of the students who attended did just that.  They grew together in Christ by having bible studies, singing worship songs around the campfire each night, and experiencing God’s beautiful creation all around us.  I’m so glad they got this opportunity once again!

This day will be both individual pictures and class pictures.Students may wear “classy dress” such as what they might wear to church or other special event or they may wear school uniforms. Students in classy dress may remain in that attire for the day.

LifeTouch will also be taking pictures of the Fall Sports Teams, as well as photographing individual athletes. Please have your student bring their uniform to school with them in the morning.

Note from the Admissions Department

Hope School relies on our families as one way to spread the word about our wonderful school. Did you know our admissions director, Sally Heit, gives personal tours every Thursday morning at 9:30 am or by appointment? It is a great way to see our campus in action.

We also have several events coming up to share with neighbors and friends: the Kindergarten Information Night is on 10/18 @ 6:30 pm and is for current or prospective preschool families to learn about what it means to be kindergarten ready. And, our All School Open House is on November 15 @ 6:30 pm and open to all families looking at preschool to 8th grade. Help us grow our community by recommending our school to others! Or write a review at Niche.com.

Important Drop-Off and Pick-Up Reminders:

We do not have staff supervision out front prior to 8:10 AM. If you arrive prior to the first bell at 8:10 AM, for your student’s safety, please keep your student in the car with you or remain with them out front.

At pickup time, please remember to remain in your car and pull forward until your student gets in the vehicle. Additionally, if you park across the street from the school, do not jaywalk across 42nd Ave, which can be very busy at that time of day, but instead utilize the crosswalk on Oregon Street. If your child needs assistance exiting or entering the car, you are also welcome to park in the lowers parking lot across the alley from the school or use other street parking and then walk up to school.

Thank you for your support of keeping everyone safe and expediting drop-off and pick-up times!

Student Council Returns to Hope

Hope Student Council is returning after a 2 ½ year hiatus! Student council is an opportunity for students to learn about student government, to organize service projects and activities for the students, and to serve as representatives for our school. Students in grades 3-8 may run for student council. Two representatives are elected in grades 3-7, and four officers are elected in grade 8. Print out the official form to apply here by this Friday, October 7. If you have any questions, reach out to Mrs. Neafcy (jneafcy@hopeseattle.org).

MAP TestingUpdate

For the coming school year, Hope School will again complete a standardized testing assessment for all K-8 students, MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA®  . During the month of October and two more times throughout the year, your child will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer or tablet. We give students MAP Growth tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in math, language and reading. Please see more information about testing that is being sent home today in the Tuesday communications yellow envelopes. Assessments will begin this week.
