Summer Reading by Leah Evjen-Bryan, Resource Specialist
One of my favorite roles as resource specialist at Hope is reading with students and supporting students as they master the skills of reading. I would like to encourage families, of all ages of students, to continue reading together with your students over the summer.
Reading is a complicated weave of many skills according to
Scarborough’s Reading Rope. Parents can be an integral part in helping their students to develop reading skills by the simple act of reading together. In reading together you can build background knowledge, verbal reasoning and vocabulary which forms the base of future learning. Students have recently introduced me to “Cat Kid,” and “Bad Guys.” They become the experts as they explain to me what is happening in these raucous stories. I help with words that are difficult to decode or vocabulary that may impede understanding. Together we have a great time in the shared act of making meaning from print.
Read together this summer to help your child become a skilled reader, I guarantee you will find something that you can enjoy together!

If offered, classes would be available for all ages three and up and would include take-home instruments. Please take a moment to submit the Instrument Interest Poll below, which will let us know which instruments you’d most like to see offered. The school office will use these poll results to assess the degree of parent interest in launching a program.

The chapel offering is collected during our weekly Wednesday chapels. Students will find offering envelopes in the weekly Yellow Envelopes.
For the months of May and June, chapel offerings will be donated to Asempa Global Academy located in Ghana. Asempa Global Academy is a Christian school started 10 years ago, and the founder has ties to the Kunkel family, here at Hope.
