WOH For Oct. 10, 2017
From a Preschool Perspective by Christina Figgins, Preschool Teacher/Director
I was listening to Pastor Peter give a sermon recently and realized how hard it must be to reach adults and encourage them in their faith journey. Adults become so bogged down with day to day life that simply thanking God for a rainbow can be overlooked. This is the reason I am so grateful that I get to spend my days interacting with 3 and 4 year olds. They look at life with so much joy and excitement.
Each day in the preschool room we say a prayer and after we say “Amen” we say thank you to Jesus for something. Often we thank him for toys, colors, moms and dads, climbers, band aids, dinosaurs… And they are truly thankful.
As their teacher I may often be the students’ first introduction to faith. It astounds me how open they are to learn about God. One of our recent themes was Noah’s Ark. We read stories and acted out setting up an ark and getting the animals on board. We discussed the storm that lasted 40 days and 40 nights, and that those animals were probably very tired of being on that boat! But, God sent a beautiful rainbow to show his love, and that meant that everything was going to be ok. I love asking the kids what it means when they see a rainbow. They say, “We are safe!”
I teach preschoolers stories from the Bible, and stories of faith. But when I look at their faces and see their excitement about this amazing life God has given us I am reminded of true faith. They are God’s greatest gift, and I get to learn from them daily. What a blessing to go to work and interact with pure individuals that can’t wait to see what’s next!
I’ll leave you with my favorite saying of the year, so far, by one of my preschoolers. “Sometimes I can’t remember what I was gonna say. I think it just fell outta my head.” Doesn’t that happen to all of us?!?
