I am a Hope Lutheran Kindergartener by Angela Schubbe, Kindergarten Teacher
I always love sharing about how unique and wonderful the small window of time that we call Kindergarten truly is. Many authors write books and poems which try to capture in verse and prose the importance of everything learned by the kindergartener in one short year of life. I will humbly try to share with you what that looks like at Hope Lutheran.
I am a Hope Lutheran Kindergartener….
I learn of God’s great love for me and that I am a very valuable part of God’s family. I learn to share God’s love with friends in my class and my personal family. I begin to appreciate that God gave everyone their own special talents and gifts, and I enjoy celebrating how special people are.
I play and work with materials and other children. Some of the materials that I use are math manipulatives, building blocks, science tools and equipment, table toys such as Legos, pegboards, and puzzles. I learn how to share ideas, collaborate with my partners, and work independently while I use these materials.
I have access to many activities throughout the day. I work at Daily Five reading and writing centers, use the Smart Board and I-Pad to enrich or review skills, create and experience art during project time, and share what I am thinking or creating through invented spelling and dictated or written stories and center journals.
I explore the natural world around me by trying many new things. I learn through special activities such as recess, Spanish, music, and physical education classes. I eat snacks in the classroom, and lunch in the cafeteria, while holding exciting discussions with my table buddies.
I understand that my teacher will read to me, read with me, and listen to me read. I learn that my teacher will share new learning ideas and concepts and listen to my ideas in return. I realize that I can grow and change and learn every day.

Please consider how you can be a blessing to those in need, and donate to our food drive. We are looking for donations of all canned food, and especially ready-to-eat foods such as granola bars, canned meat, flop-top canned fruit, etc. The winning classroom is decided by the average donation per student and will earn a free dress pass for a day. Thank you!
Extra Halloween Candy?
Our Student Council members will collect your extra Halloween candy. Bring it to school by this Friday and the candy will be sent in care packages to our troops overseas.
(Candy collection is not part of the food drive.)

Labels for Education & Box Tops
Thanks to all of you who continue to send in Labels for Education and Box Tops!
These are important fundraisers for our preschool kids and best of all, these are free for us because they’re on items we already buy. We just completed an order of Labels for Education of almost 5000 points, giving Hope a bank of 20,000 points!
We are now working on another shipment of Box Tops that is over $300 and have a goal of $1000 for the year for Box Tops. Fill up a Boxtopoly sheet, write your name and grade on it to be entered into a drawing for a family Menchie’s gift card. The winner will be announced the week of Thanksgiving. You increase your chances of winning by sending in multiple sheets!
7th & 8th Grade basketball Season
Boys and Girls basketball schedules for the 2014-2015 season are now loaded into the school’s online calendar. Please note the calendar may change between now and start of the season as well as throughout the season. Without the use of our own gym we rely on other gym schedules which can cause changes throughout the year. You can filter down the calendar to only show basketball by clicking in the top right corner on the drop arrow, then make sure only Jr High Basketball is selected. Please make sure your athletic registration and fee are submitted to the school ASAP.
Lil Saints Basketball Camp
The Seattle Lutheran Basketball team, and Head Coach Brett Kapels, would like to invite all 3rd-6th graders to attend our Lil Saints Basketball Camp. Through this camp, you will learn basketball basics, get the chance to work with the high school team and play during half time at three of their games this upcoming season. The camp continues to grow in numbers each year, so take advantage of the opportunity for all talent levels to come and participate! Please look for information in your Tuesday Newsletter or on the Seattle Lutheran High School’s website under the basketball section. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Kapels at Bkapels@hopeseattle.org.
