WOH For Tues. Nov. 15, 2016

Posted November 15, 2016 by Shari Wallace & filed under School Newsletter.

Fall Sports Success by Tim Allen, Athletic Director

What a fun fall season of sports we just wrapped up, with Cross Country, Volleyball, and Flag Football teams all competing their hardest and offering great competition!

It’s so interesting to see the students in a different realm other than the classroom; in some ways, competition (especially in sports) brings out the true character of a person. We get to see how athletes react when things aren’t necessarily going their way, along with how they are able to push through and rise up to meet challenges as they appear. It also is great because we see coaches (often parents) who are so selflessly giving of their time after school to help these students succeed and grow in the sports they’re competing in, but also as people.

Both Cross Country and Volleyball had great seasons, even if they didn’t bring home any banner or championship. The students, across the board, set many personal records in terms of time spent running, total distance run, number of serves made, or even ability to cheer on teammates and opponents (yes, I think you can PR in your sportsmanship too).

Flag Football was able to accomplish something it hasn’t in the recent memories of any staff member: finishing the season undefeated and bringing home the league championship trophy! They had an amazing season, persevering through obstacles, injuries, and stiff competition to win all 5 of the games they played, all by double digits.

Thanks to the head coaches for all three sports: Sharman McAllister for XC, Jennifer Rice for VB, and Louis Couwenberg for FFB. The students would not have had the successes they did were it not for their countless hours spent giving of themselves to these athletes.

We now turn our attention to the winter sports, boys and girls basketball. The athletes are ready to begin this season that pushes all the way to LEST in February and so are boys coach Scott Okabayashi and girls coach Jacob Menashe. More information will come about games times; you all are invited to cheer on our athletes as they compete and honor Christ with their gifts he’s given them.

Chocolate Milk Update

Thank you for your survey responses. According to the survey data, a majority of parents are in favor of offering chocolate milk at school and would prefer that it is offered just once a week. With your feedback in mind, student council is sending home order forms for chocolate milk in today’s Tuesday communication envelopes. If you would like to sign your child up, please return the form and payment to the office ($10 for the remainder of the school year.) If your child already receives milk, there is no need to do anything. Chocolate milk will be offered on Wednesdays only, and students will continue to have regular milk that day if they so choose. Thanks again for helping student council make a change that has been requested by many students over the years!
