Welcome Back BBQ Tonight!

We look forward to seeing everyone tonight at our Welcome Back BBQ! The evening will begin in the lowers/fellowship hall with a big BBQ at 5:30 PM – please bring a side dish or a dessert to share in a disposable container. Around 6:45 PM, we will make the transition to self-guided tours of the classrooms. We can’t wait to see everyone!

Important Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

As we get ready to kick off our new school year, please take some time to review our drop off and pick up procedures, as the goal is to keep this process running smoothly and to keep our kids safe! Please review these procedures with anyone who may drop off or pick up your child. Preschool families will have additional information available from your teacher. If you have any questions please contact your child’s teacher or ask us in the office. Thank you for your attention to this!

Drop Off Guidelines:

  • Students may be dropped off in front of the school no earlier than 8:10 AM, as we do not have a staff person available to supervise students before that. If you need childcare before 8:10 AM, please use our extended care program or carpool with another family.
  • When dropping off your child in front of the school on 42nd, please pull forward as far as possible and drop off quickly. If you need to enter the school for any reason, please do not leave your car in front but park somewhere else. You may park before school in our lowers parking lot entered through the alley or use street parking or use the lot kiddy corner from the school to the south on 42nd Ave.

Pick Up Guidelines:

  • Cars outside the school on 42nd should pull as far forward as possible to keep traffic moving
  • Do not leave your car unattended out front of the school on 42nd at pick up time.
  • When waiting on 42nd Ave in front of the school, drivers please pay attention so that you can pull forward as soon as another car leaves.
  • Please do not double park outside the front of the school and ask your child to come to your car across the line of parked cars – this is very dangerous.

If you are parked in another parking lot, please use crosswalks as you approach the school and ask that your child use crosswalks as well.

Lunchtime Volunteers

This year, we are excited to try out a new format for our class lunches. We will move lunchtime down to the fellowship hall in our church lower floor instead of offering lunch in our classrooms. We think it’s important for our students to connect with students from different grades, and also we want to be able to provide our teachers with a lunchtime break. We will offer three different lunches: K-2, grades 3-5, and middle school.

This also means our volunteer needs at lunch and recess will be different. We are looking for several parent volunteers per day to assist us with lunch or with recess, working with a staff person each day. Volunteers will be serving all grades this year, not just their child’s particular grade level. We are looking for lunchtime volunteers to serve from 11:45-12:45 in the fellowship hall, with a need for one person to come a little early to be sure everything is set up, and one person to stay a little later to finish cleaning up. We are also looking for recess volunteers to serve from 12:05-1:05, beginning with the younger students on the playground and then finishing up with the middle school students in the lowers.

We hope this also helps make volunteering more rewarding for you, as you will have the chance to have a whole hour of volunteer hours. To sign up, please contact Mrs. Wallace in the school office at swallace@hopeseattle.org or (206) 935-8500.

Washington DC Fundraisers

Dinner Event: This Wednesday and Thursday, August 27th and 28th we will have a California Pizza Kitchen Fundraiser at the Southcenter Mall California Pizza Kitchen! Pick up your flyers tonight at the BBQ – they are your ticket to participating in this fundraiser. This is a great and fun event, and in addition to a nice dinner a percentage of all the purchases will go to the WDC fund. This offer even works for take-outs.

Everyone is welcome! Please help us spread the word via the church, Facebook, Twitter, local news, posting the flyers at your or local businesses, etc.

Car Wash: This Saturday, August 30th, will be a Car Wash Fundraiser for the 7th and 8th graders to help fund their trip to Washington D.C. this spring. Stop by West Seattle Autoworks at 7501 35th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98126, from 10 am – 1 pm to get washed up and look cool with a clean car! Get your car scrubbed up and support an educational journey for the students of Hope School! Thank you to West Seattle Autoworks for supporting Hope Lutheran School!

Bowl-a-thon: We will host a bowl-a-thon on Friday, Sept. 26th from 4:00-6:00 at West Seattle Bowl. Cost is $20 per person and includes 2 hours of bowling, shoe rental, pizza and pop. More information will come out soon. This is open to All Hope school family and friends.

New Afterschool Club – Cooking Class

Cooking today is quickly becoming a lost art both in our school curriculum and in our busy home kitchens.  Hope will offer after school culinary classes for kids ages 8-12 with a focus on nutrition.  Over the course of 5 weeks they will be chopping, mixing, stirring, baking and sautéing their way through breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert together. Watch for further information and sign up forms in your Tuesday communication envelopes.

PIP Volunteer Opportunities

Office Help/Scrip – We are in need of some year-long bookkeeping help in the office.  This would take care of your PIP hours for the entire year.  If you have experience with bookkeeping or accounting please contact Shari Wallace at swallace@hopeseattle.org.
School Crossing Guard is a great way to earn those PIP hours throughout the school year. We are looking for one or two volunteers to help at the corner of Oregon and 42nd street. Hours before school are 8:00 to 8:30 am and after school from 2:45 to 3:15 pm. Please contact Mrs. Wallace at 206-935-8500 if you are interested. Training and crossing materials will be provided.
