Christmas Spirit by Mairi Seraile, Preschool Teacher (and former Hope student)
When returning to the Preschool 4 Orca classroom after the Thanksgiving holiday (which flew by), visions of sugar plum fairies dancing in my head were quite the opposite of the feelings that were consuming my mind on my walk down the school hallway. As I stopped to pull my keys out of my rather “busy” looking teacher tote, I paused for a moment and couldn’t help but notice the warm comforting feeling that quickly erased the, “Oh my this is going to be a crazy week” thoughts. I remembered walking down the same hallway when I was a student here at Hope. In my mind, I remember my art work that was hung carefully on the wall, Ms. Tagge’s piano playing number 557 from the Lutheran Hymnal, and a warm hug or a kind smile from a teacher in the classroom awaiting me daily. I could go on and on but simply put, I was given a gift of comfort.
The revelation that I enjoy revisiting is that I was given that gift all because of one person. Jesus! I have the privilege of sharing that same gift with my students because He first loved us. We are called by Him to share His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control because God sent His Son in flesh to show us how to bear fruit for His glory. These seeds of hope were planted in me as a young girl right here at Hope.
I have a little homework assignment for all of us. This season, no matter how busy we feel or how many accomplishments we mark off the list or gifts we buy our loved ones, let’s simply pause for a moment. Let’s let His Spirit remind us that He is the reason comfort and love can change business and chaos into a simple gift to share with others. So amazing- a free gift that costs us nothing but cost Him everything – is the reason for this season. Let’s share His comfort and love with others for His glory. Merry Christmas!
