End of Year Reflections by Kristen Okabayashi, Hope Principal
As we wrap up this school year, I always spend time reflecting on the year and considering what went well or even what did not go well. I found myself getting a little teary watching our 8th graders arrive this morning and thinking of how far they have come. This class was in first grade when I started here as principal, so it is really something special to know many of these students for so long, and watch them grow up! This year our 8th graders are headed off in different directions, including Seattle Lutheran HS, Kennedy Catholic HS, West Seattle HS, Chief Sealth HS, Aviation HS, and Seattle Prep HS. I know they will do well and succeed wherever they are headed!
Highlights for my year include:
- Successful fundraising by our PTH to fund a new playground structure! Our students voted last Wednesday and by an overwhelming majority, they selected our first option which holds a wide variety of play pieces including a giant slide, a smaller slide, a climbing wall, and monkey bars. Unfortunately no zip line as some of the students requested, ha-ha. We will really need adults to help with the demolition and installation of this new structure this summer in late July and early August, so please contact us at the school office if you can help us with that, and keep the price within our budget.
- Students in grades 1-8 designed, reviewed, and printed a 3D project using Tinkercad or SketchUp software, including middle school who all created a light source with a partner student in another country as part of our Level Up Village global unit
- Our girls winning the LEST basketball championship! Under the coaching of Jacob Menashe, this group of girls practiced so hard and played really above their ability level to win it all at LEST, and I was so proud of them.
As we prepare for summer vacation, we have a lot to be thankful for, and I invite you to join us for our last chapel celebrating our year tomorrow at 8:40 AM, and 8th grade graduation at 7:00 PM.

Summer Help Offered – Ms. Clark
As many of you know, I am planning to move to the Los Angeles area after finishing teaching here at Hope Lutheran. I will likely not be moving until August or September of this year and I am looking to make some extra money in my spare time this summer as I gear up to move and look for a new job. I’d love the opportunity to house sit, babysit, or provide care for pets for any of the wonderful families here at Hope Lutheran! Please reach out if you or anyone you know is looking for help in these areas. Kelsey Clark @ kelseyclark024@gmail.com or 206-963-4427.
