Summer Break by Kristen Okabayashi
Last week, I read something on social media that played into the stereotype that teachers are all giddy about school being out, and ready to celebrate on the last day of school. I’m sure that is partly true for all of us, even as parents, since the pace of life usually eases back in summer. No getting to school at 8:15/making sure your child has a lunch/has done their homework/has PE clothes/has CLEAN PE clothes/has their permission slip turned in, etc. It’s a good breather for all of us!
I was talking with my husband last Friday after our own staff lunch, and shared that I did notice something “different” about our staff. The weird thing is that most of us were talking about the school year, wishing we might have done something differently, and a couple teachers even said they wished that had another week or two with their students! Instead of celebrating, it seemed that most of our teachers were reflecting back on their year. As you go on your summer adventures, know that your students (and YOU!) are part of our Hope family, and cared for accordingly. Have a fantastic summer!
