Athletic Update by Brett Kapels
And that’s a wrap!
It is amazing how fast the school year seems to have gone once you reach June. Hope Lutheran has had a great year in sports. As a whole for this school year, I tally 4 championships teams, 2 runner-up teams and a vast amount of ribbons for top 5 finishes for our track team. Hope Lutheran School has really grown to become competitive in our Puget Sound Lutheran Schools League.
This weekend, 67 golfers and a number of helpers stepped foot on the course at Foster Golf Links to support our athletes. I first hosted this tournament 8 years ago with 23 players. God blesses us each and every year as we continue to grow. One of my favorite pieces is welcoming new participants. I counted, unofficially of course, 16 new golfers this year.
The most common reason for those not participating in the golf tournament has something to do with “I’ve never golfed before” or “I’m not any good at golf.” This is the best time to play then! You are playing with a team, all four members tee off. You pick the best shot, and the other three members pick up their ball and drop at that spot. Then all four hit from there. It takes the stress and worry out of it! I know there are many more out there who would love to play in the tournament and we would love to have you play next year!
Go Eagles,
Mr. Kapels

Advanced Math Recommendations for 2015-2016 School Year
As most of you know, our math curriculum “Math in Focus” is challenging at grade level, which is one of the many reasons we chose it to update our math curriculum three years ago. At the same time, there are a small number of students in grades 4-8 that meet the criterion to work ahead a grade level in math. Parents and guardians of students whose teachers have recommended them for advanced math next year have been contacted already, and advanced math contracts are being sent home today in the communication envelope. Contracts are due back to the office no later than June 19, 2015. If you or your student has questions, please contact your child’s current math teacher or Mrs. Okabayashi.

Eagle Classic News
Hope Lutheran Athletics wants to everyone for coming out on Saturday to support student athletics at the 13th annual Eagle Classic! We hosted 17 teams and enjoyed great weather. Special thanks to our sponsors: West Seattle Mortgage, Menashe & Sons Jewelers, Graffix Integrative Signage, Seattle Logo Pro, Envision Inc, Spud Fish and Chips, Andrew Lewis, DDS, and Dave Bruno who sponsored on behalf of Mrs. Hartley’s first grade class, plus all the parents who donated sponsorships for teachers. We wouldn’t be able to put on this tournament without the help of our great volunteers: Rich Albers, John Brunt, Corie Broga, Brian and Sarah Louie, Ashli Brown, Mary Learned and Jeanne Flohr. A BIG shout out to Richard Figgins who captured the fun moments and photographed all the teams. Go Eagles!
