WOH For Tuesday, May 29, 2018

Summer Boredom Solutions! By Sally Heit, Admissions Director

There are 12 days left until the end of school! How did that happen? Weren’t we all just at the Back-To-School BBQ? Every year seems to move faster than the previous, and yet we accomplish so much within that year from surpassing reading and math goals, concert performances, sport tournaments and meets, LEST, field trips and fun! I think everyone is ready for a little break and some sun after this busy year.

Even though we are ending the 2017-2018 year, the staff is always looking ahead and planning for next year. There are some great community events coming up throughout the summer that we encourage you to check out if you are in town. You can definitely get a jump start on your PIP hours for next school year!

Hope School has a great summer camp that begins June 20th to July 20th, and we still have space available. Summer camp director Christina Figgins has some great activities planned for the kids, including the Reptile Man!

Something new that Hope Seattle Church and School will be participating in is the West Seattle Summer Fest in the Junction! We’re excited to host a game tent July 14th featuring large Jenga, handing out water and enjoying the West Seattle community. Stay tuned for more information to come via email with volunteer opportunities for this event.

It wouldn’t be summer without participating in the West Seattle Grand Parade July 21st! This is an event that Hope Church and School look forward to every summer. We welcome all parent and student volunteers to help drive the bus, walk and pass out candy, carry the banner and show our Eagle Spirit! Look for more information in your email beginning of July.

Vacation Bible School, Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus will be starting July 23rd to the 27th and is 3 hours of awesome teaching, learning and fun! If your student is in middle or high school, this is an opportunity to volunteer and be a part of fun experience. Click here to register your student to attend or volunteer. A math camp is available at Hope each afternoon after VBS (July 23rd – 27th) for students in 4th-8th grade. It will be taught by Mrs. Sara Kunkel, Hope’s middle school math teacher. Click here to find out more information.

Last but not least, Hope is excited to be sponsoring the 14th annual West Seattle Outdoor Movies beginning mid-July with Wonder Woman. Hope has chosen to sponsor Coco which will be shown August 18th at the West Seattle YMCA with gates opening at 6:30 and the movie starting at dusk. All movies are FREE and at every movie there will be concessions and raffles.

Before you know it, we’ll all exchange our summer happenings on August 29th for the Back-To-School BBQ sponsored by PTH and start another year September 4th. I pray your summer is filled with relaxing days, fun-filled nights and joy in the small, quiet moments of summer that create lasting memories.

Needed – Gently Used Items

My name is Michele Olson and I work in our preschool program at Hope. A friend of mine provides after school care for two young girls from a family who is currently homeless. The dad just got a job so my friend is helping them find affordable housing. She is looking for bikes or scooters and other fun summer games and art supplies that they could use. If you or anyone you know has outgrown or no longer using things these girls might like, I will be happy to bring them to her. The girls are currently in kindergarten and 4th grade in Bellevue. You could drop off any items in the school office. Thank you!
