Parent/Teacher Conferences by Jennifer Neafcy, Assistant Principal
Next week, parents of K-8 students will have an opportunity to meet with teachers during our parent/teacher conferences. Parent/teacher conferences provide a great opportunity for parents and teachers to partner together for the education of our students. Research shows that when parents and teachers actively work together, the result is improved educational outcomes for students. Parent/teacher conferences also provide great opportunities to build relationships between families and teachers.
Next week, parents of K-8 students will have an opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss how their child is performing, primarily cognitively, but also socially, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. K-8 student fall conferences are strongly encouraged.
This year, most conferences will be held with the homeroom teacher only, including middle school. Please click on the link below to sign up for a conference time on November 4 and 5, 2021, with your student’s teacher. All conferences will be held via the homeroom teacher’s Zoom and will be 20 minutes in length.

Fall Harvest Spirit Day – Friday, October 29th
Fall is in the air! To celebrate the season, this Friday, October 29 will be a Fall Harvest Spirit Dress Day. Students may wear Fall Harvest themed t-shirts or sweatshirts to include fall colors, pumpkins, scarecrows, and that type of thing.
Please note that this is an optional spirit day, so students choosing not to dress up need to wear regular school uniforms. Please be sure accessories and t-shirts/sweatshirts are not scary and are appropriate for preschool students to see. These spirit days are not costume dress-up days, and free-dress guidelines apply. Happy Fall!
Hope Basketball – Athletes and Assistant Coaches Needed
The girls and boys basketball teams will begin practicing in mid-November. The girls team head coach will be Anthony Stordahl, and the boys team head coach will be Scott Okabayashi. The boys team will most likely be available for just 7th and 8th grader athletes, with the girls team possibly adding 6th graders as well. We are looking for assistant coaches for both teams. Practices and games are 2-3 days per week during the season, which runs mid-November through LEST in mid-February. Contact Mr. Goodspeed at mgoodspeed@hopeseattle.org if you have questions or want to volunteer.
Mr. Goodspeed is working on practice and game schedules which will be released soon, along with more information about the season and safety protocols. Athletic registration information is available here.
Lutheran Elementary Schools Tournament (LEST) February 17-19, 2022
Registration forms went home last Tuesday for students in grades 5-8 for the annual Lutheran Elementary Schools Tournament! LEST was hosted at Concordia University’s Portland campus for the first 58 years, and last year shifted to a virtual format due to Concordia’s closure and the pandemic. We are thrilled to share that LEST 2022 will be in person in Tacoma at various locations including mainly Concordia Christian Academy and Pacific Lutheran University. More information is in the Tuesday communication envelope and feel free to send questions to Tim Allen at tallen@hopeseattle.org, Kristen Okabayashi at kokabayashi@hopeseattle.org, or call the school office at (206) 935-8500. Go Eagles!
