Fall Happenings! By Tim Allen, Sixth Grade Teacher and Athletic Director
What a fall it has already been! The school year has gotten off to an amazing start, with so many different fun events already happening or happening in the next few weeks. As I make the transition this year from just Homeroom Teacher to Homeroom Teacher AND Athletic Director, my eyes are being opened more to the amazing things our students do on a daily basis.
First off, I recently got back from Outdoor Ed with my 6th graders, and it never ceases to amaze me how kind and respectful our kids are and how much they enjoy learning in a less traditional setting. After spending 3 days together in the outdoors, students come back as a stronger group of 6th graders in multiple different ways: they’re all much better friends with each other than when we left, they gained many new friends from other Lutheran schools that we’ll see throughout the sports seasons and LEST, and for some of them, they spend the night away from home with other students for the first time.
As Athletic Director, it’s fun to see our student compete against the other schools from our league, competing as Christ’s ambassadors on and off the field. They are, for the most part, so respectful of their competitors and also love seeing their teammates succeed. Flag Football, Volleyball, and Cross Country are well underway and have about half of their seasons remaining, so please check the Hope School calendar to see if there are any home (or away!) matches that you could make it to and support our student athletes.
Finally, I was in charge of my first Fall Olympics this past week. What a rush that was to see our students competing against each other in all of those fun competitions. I’ve seen it as a Team Leader the past 4 years, but seeing it from another perspective gives me fresh eyes to see how much the students enjoy it. It gives our older students opportunities to help encourage (and be role models for) our younger students who get teamed up with them.
Coming soon we have our winter sports (starting right around Thanksgiving). I will be stepping down as 7th/8th grade girls basketball coach this season to focus more on the Athletic Director Role and being able to be at both boys and girls games makes that necessary. That being said, I AM LOOKING FOR A COACH TO REPLACE ME, so if you even want to hear a little bit more about what that would entail, please contact me or Mrs. Wallace in the office.
In Christ, Mr. Allen

Box Tops Treasure Chest Campaign Returns!
Have you seen the new trikes and helmets in our preschool program? What does that have to do with Box Tops? These where purchased with help from all of you that participated in our Box Top program last year. We are hoping to again provide much needed supplies for our Hope Preschool Program so it’s time to collect them and turn them in! Box Tops are on several products most of us already buy including cereal, Kleenex, some baking mixes, etc. Starting next weeks, we start our Treasure Chest campaign. Fill up a collect sheet (coming home today in the Tuesday envelope), bring it in to the office and your child can pick a prize out of the treasure chest. Thanks for your help in this important ongoing fundraiser for Hope!
Parking Reminders
When dropping off and picking up your student(s) from Hope School, please remember that cars cannot be left unattended out front on 42nd Ave. When dropping off, please pull as far forward as you can, drop off your child (if possible on the curb side), and pull away. Try to have your student as independent as possible at getting out of the seatbelt or car seat. At pickup time, again please pull forward as far as you can, and remain in your car to continue to pull forward as other cars pull out. Following these important guidelines will help keep our cars and most importantly, our students, safe.
