Be Strong, Be Courageous by Kristen Okabayashi, Hope Principal
Joshua 1:9 (NIV) 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Our school year kicked off last Wednesday with an energetic chapel service led by Pastor Peter, introducing our school theme for this year, “Be Strong, Be Courageous”. Throughout the year, students will learn about people who have lived out this theme in their lives, along with figuring out how we can personally live out that theme. Some of the topics we will wrestle with include what does this theme mean, what does being strong and courageous look like, and how can we figure out what it means to each of us personally. It is truly a call to action!
Welcome back, all our Hope families! It was a wonderful first week of school and we look forward to a fantastic school year.

Chapel Offering Envelopes
Offerings are collected during our Wednesday chapel service from the students using their weekly offering envelopes. Hope School continues to sponsor a child, Christopher Tano, through Compassion International. Your students offering envelopes will be sent home each Tuesday. These offerings allow students to develop a pattern of giving as part of their Christian lives and to share God’s love by supporting missions and charities. Therefore, we encourage students to give from their own money (allowance or other earnings).
September Chapel Offerings
For the month of September, chapel offerings will be donated to Hope Lutheran Church in Tonasket, WA, who will pass on the donations directly to victims of the Washington fires. If you wish to donate directly, please send your personal check, cashier’s check or money order to: Hope Lutheran Church, Memo line: Fire Victims, PO Box 607, Tonasket, WA 98855. Thank you for supporting these families!

Tuesday Newsletter & Communication Envelopes
Our newsletter is sent via email every Tuesday and will also be posted to our website at www.hopeseattle.org. Please notify the school office at 206-935-8500 if you require a hard copy. Our weekly newsletter is used for general announcements, calendar date changes or reminders, Parent Involvement Program (PIP) opportunities, sports, and much more! Other communication tools we utilize are Vertical Response, which goes out via email, and SchoolMessenger, which goes out via phone. Please ensure that the school office has up-to-date information for your family. Each kindergarten through 8th grade homeroom will also send home a bright yellow communication folder with important school forms. Please sign the outside of the envelope, remove the contents and return the folder to your child’s homeroom. Do not place forms inside this envelope, instead attach any forms returning to the school to the outside of the envelope.
School Directory & Handbook
Each year the school prints and distributes a school directory for our school families. Every effort is made to publish a complete and accurate directory. If you have had a change of address, phone or email since completing your registration or re-enrollment form for our 2015-16 school year, please notify Mrs. Wallace by email at swallace@hopeseattle.org by Friday, September 11th. Our directory will be distributed Tuesday, September 22nd. Our handbook is in the process of being updated but can be viewed via our website and any changes will be communicated through our newsletter.
