Words of Hope for November 19, 2013
Teamwork by Brett Kapels
When November comes, we turn our athletic focus from cross country, football, and volleyball to basketball. Before moving forward, I always try to reflect on where I’ve been. This fall we had some pretty amazing athletic teams produce very uncommon results. The credit ultimately goes to God for the gifts he has given us as athletes, but we also want to thank God for the gifts he has given our coaching staff. Our teams were led by coaches who not only focus on the sport, but incorporate valuable life lessons in their teaching. If you have a chance, please thank these coaches for their time and efforts!
Volleyball: JenRice
Cross Country: SharmanMcAllister and CaraMarion
Flag Football: LarryMarion, RodneyKuhn and RyanOkabayashi
It is amazing the see the glory of God shown in the efforts put forward by the students. Our volleyball team capped off their season finishing 4th in our league of 7 teams. As the season progressed, they became more familiar with one another and the level of play was raised. Our flag football team had a great year, after starting the season 4-0 it came down to the final game against another 4-0 team. In a hard fought game where the score wasn’t determined until the final drive, we scored but were not able to connect for the conversion to tie it up, and lost the battle 20-19. Cross Country continued their hot streak from last year as Hope was able to recapture the league championship and come home with the banner. You can find that banner hanging in our hallway!
As we move forward into the next season we reflect back on the ups and downs and in everything we did, and we learn from it to make ourselves better for the seasons to come. If you did not have a chance to catch an event, please take the time this season. Hope is blessed to have great students, who also happen to be blessed with athletic talent as well!
Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to produce uncommon results.
