Words of Hope – Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Posted August 23, 2013 by olywebdev & filed under School Newsletter.

Welcome Back Family Night & BBQ
Tuesday, August 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM
Everyone is invited to join us for this fun evening of food and fellowship with our school families and staff. A BBQ will kick off our evening – please bring a side dish or dessert to share– we will then hear from our principal and wrap up with visits to the classrooms. Hope you can come!

School Uniform Drive Continues
We have gently used uniforms that have been donated to the school and church. These are available to all families and will be located in the school hall through September 6th. Please feel free to take what you need and or to donate items your children no longer use. Please call the school office at 206-935-8500 with any questions.

PIP Volunteer Opportunities
Classroom Help: We have areas of our school and classrooms that need some TLC. If you have a few hours to spare and can come help organize, clean and assist teachers to prepare for school please call the school office at 206-935-8500.

Our Back to School BBQ is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27th at 5:30pm.
PTH is still looking for volunteers to help and of course clean up. Please contact Lori Ho at lorihorocks@hotmail.com or Beth at beth@bethghomes.com. Thanks!

School Crossing Guard is a great way to earn those PIP hours throughout the school year. We are looking for one or two volunteers to help at the corner of Oregon and 42nd street. Hours before school are 7:45 to 8:30 am and after school from 2:45 to 3:15 pm. Please contact Mrs. Wallace at 206-935-8500 if you are interested. Training and crossing materials will be provided.

NEST Hot Lunch Program
As we mentioned previously, Hope is pleased to offer a new choice in our hot lunch program, NEST Hot Lunch by Café Stellina Catering. Lunches will be provided on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays beginning September 4! A representative will attend our Welcome Back Night next Tuesdays with samples of lunches and order forms so be sure to visit our hot lunch table. Hot lunch is available to all our K-8 students as well as our full day preschool students, at a cost of $4.50 per day. One change from last year: you must sign up for all three days of the week for the whole month. The registration form is on the website and you can fill it out, scan it, and email it back to them or send it via snail mail. Here is a bit more information about NEST:

Thank you for your interest in the NEST Hot Lunch Program. Lunchtime will never be the same again! Our staff brings the meal, sets up, serves and cleans. We contract directly with the parents and take care of both payment and registration.

Parents will benefit by saving both time and resources by not having to shop for or pack an exciting, child friendly lunch. You can be assured that the children are provided with and exposed to healthy food options that change daily. You may be surprised by some of the food that picky home eaters are willing to try at school! We know that children will develop a natural preference for foods they eat most often and enjoy. Our challenge is to make healthy choices appealing and exciting. It takes an average of 8-10 presentations of a new food before most children display a willing acceptance.

We cook from scratch every day. Our tomato based soups and sauces all contain ground organic carrot, onion, celery and spinach. Our cheese or white soup/sauce base contains ground organic celery, onion and zucchini. Our poultry products are hormone free. We offer a grain, protein, vegetable, fruit and dairy every lunch. We do not fry food and keep processed foods to a bare minimum. On days that involve meat, we offer a separate vegetarian option and we can accommodate both gluten and dairy free diets. The lunches are served up on old school divided lunch trays or divided compostable plates. Seconds are always available for fruit, vegetable and usually the entree.

NEST operates at Giddens School, Hamlin Robinson School, Lake Washington Girls Middle School, Seattle Girls School, Hutch School, The French American School of the Puget Sound, and now Hope Lutheran School. We look forward to a great year of hot lunches. Menus and registration forms are posted at schools and on the NEST website at cafestellinacatering.com.

Thank you, Teri Esensten, NEST Chef/Owner
