Welcome to Hope Lutheran School!

Welcome to Hope Lutheran School, one of the largest private Lutheran schools in the Pacific Northwest. When it was established in 1959, Hope Lutheran School opened its doors to 88 students in grades kindergarten through grade 5 and now serves over 180 students through 8th grade. For sixty years Hope has been educating students for life-long learning in the West Seattle community, intentionally keeping our class sizes small in number so we can get to know your family and student. One unique quality that current families continually mention when talking about Hope Lutheran School is the emphasis we put on forming relationships with our students and parents. The teachers at Hope love to teach, and that love shows in our daily interactions with students.

Faith Focused

"When I came to hope, I was instantly welcomed. I've learned about God, made friends, and become a better student." Hope student

Student Centered

"The teachers really care about their students and want them to succeed. Though HOPE is a small school, it's big in many ways. I know my child is getting a good education, is being challenged academically and in a safe environment." Hope Parent

Inspiring Excellence

"One reason why I love Hope Lutheran School is the class size. I really feel like my son has the opportunity to get the help that he needs when he needs it...so that he can really shine." Hope parent

“My wife and I have been doing a lot of thinking about transitions lately.  We have a son, a proud Hope graduate now attending Kennedy Catholic High School, looking at colleges in a couple of years, and a daughter who is moving through her last year at Hope as an 8th grader. Lots of change coming. We were very thoughtful about putting them both in Hope School when the time came for them to transition from day care with our nanny to a school environment, and did extensive research of all options available to us here in West Seattle and beyond. Our initial impressions of Hope were of an abiding sense of community, of the close connection the school had with the church and the family of faith that represented. While we weren’t members of Hope Lutheran Church, our kids embraced the spiritual aspects of the education they received at Hope and were able to translate the faith curriculum offered to a spiritual message that resonated for them, and they became better people because of it. Hope taught them the value of character, and integrity, and brought to them a sense of safety and belonging during all the tumultuous developmental stages they experienced as they grew. And now Hope is there for our family as we face all of the changes and challenges before us for picking a new high school, and a new college, and we are grateful to have them in our corner. The administrators, staff and teachers of this wonderful institution have become a part of our family, and are helping us grow through this time of change. I am sure that our children wouldn’t be as well-prepared to face the upcoming new worlds they are entering without the foundation laid by the hard work of the community of Hope. We are, and will be, forever grateful for this special place and its special people.”
