Middle School

Located in our north campus (4100 SW Genesee St), middle school students at Hope School can expect to serve as the leaders and encouragers of our school. They begin their middle school experience in sixth grade with a class field trip to Outdoor Education at Miracle Ranch. Unlike the teachers in our elementary grades, our middle school teachers teach in their areas of specialty, and middle school students move from class to class becoming more independent in their learning.

At the same time, our small class sizes ensure that no student is left behind. With small guided reading groups in literacy and the opportunity to take advanced math, each student is encouraged to reach their potential. Middle school students work with specialists in technology, music, art, and physical education.

Seventh- and eighth-graders also have the opportunity to visit the East Coast with their classmates and some chaperones, as they visit historical sites in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York.

In addition to our core academic classes, middle school students at Hope School have the opportunity to round out their learning by choosing electives. Currently students can choose two different electives each trimester. Choices vary from trimester to trimester and often include art, advanced PE, chapel band, study hall, band or handbell choir, yearbook, newspaper, and/or a science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) elective (e.g., Lego Robotics or Strategic Board Games, or 3-D Modeling).

Outdoor Education

The sixth-graders at Hope Lutheran School have the opportunity to attend Outdoor Education each September. Alongside other sixth-graders from several Lutheran schools, students and chaperones travel to Miracle Ranch for three days and two nights of experiential learning and friendship building. Activities include: horseback riding, archery, swimming, wildlife encounters, ropes course, and Bible studies/worship each evening. Students come away with a new appreciation for each other, themselves, and all the wonderful things God has blessed us with.

East Coast Trip

Seventh- and eighth-graders have the option to participate in the East Coast trip every other year. Dates, costs, and a sample itinerary are given to students at the beginning of their sixth or seventh grade year. Detailed information and plans for fundraising to defray some of the expenses are planned in the spring and fall. The trip begins in WA D.C. and students visit sites such as the Washington Monument, the White House, Arlington Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, and the Vietnam Memorial. Traveling for a total of eight to nine days students and chaperones make their way from Washington D.C. through either Philadelphia or Baltimore and end in New York City. This trip is one of the highlights of middle school. Learn more about Washington D.C.

Lutheran Elementary School Tournament (LEST)

The Lutheran Elementary School Tournament (LEST) is hosted every February by Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, WA. Students in grades 5 through 8 have the unique opportunity to compete with more than 1,000 students from 20 schools in events such as basketball, swimming, math, Knowledge Bowl, drama, spelling, art, chess, dance/drill, Robotics and science exposition. The tournament activities occur over a three-day period, during which families lodge together, share meals, and cheer for their school. Learn more about LEST.
