“Hopecoming” Happenings! By Heather Paar, Hopecoming Auction Chair
Three years ago, my husband and I attended a charity auction here in Seattle. During the live auction, my husband bid on a trip to Tuscany, Italy, which included a week of lodging and a cooking class. I was reluctant, but he persisted in raising his paddle and we ended up winning the trip. A year and a half later we embarked on our trip to Italy, taking our oldest daughter Pearle, who was seven years old and had just finished first grade.
It was one of the best trips we have ever taken. I am so grateful that we raised our paddle.
We enjoyed almost 2 weeks alone with our oldest daughter who immersed herself in the delights of Italian culture. We went to gladiator school in Rome and spent a week exploring the quiet town of Cortona. She made friends with local children and savored the three-hour Italian dinners. Our cooking class took us to a beautifully renovated Tuscan home belonging to the chef and his family for generations. Watching my daughter make her own tagliatelle from the well of flour and a cracked egg, and then devour the elegant meal she prepared was a true joy.
I discovered an abundance of generosity in chairing the Hopecoming auction this year. Many devoted Hope parents have given tirelessly of their time and talent to bring it all together. Every time a donor responded “yes” my heart was filled with gratitude again. It is my sincere desire that every one of you will find a way to experience joy at Hopecoming. We have an amazing evening planned, filled with fun, friends, and one-of-a-kind items and experiences to bid on. Whether it is the trip of a lifetime, a local experience, or supporting the spirit of the 12th man at home, I hope that each of you will find a place to raise your paddle and enrich your lives. I can’t wait to see you there. Our students are counting on us!
Hopecoming is 5 days away – This Saturday, April 21!
