Athletic Director Update by Tim Allen
Wow this year has really flown by! It seems like just yesterday I was getting back from Outdoor Education with my 6th graders, and now they’re just 9 days away from being 7th graders.
It has been such a blessing overseeing our athletic department this year as Athletic Director. I get to see all the work that goes into making sure these athletes of ours have an amazing experience, and that all starts with the coaches. I couldn’t have imagined having better coaches for ALL our sports this school year, and I know it has helped our athletes grow in confidence and abilities, as they are led by volunteers who go above and beyond to make it a wonderful time for our athletes. I would like to recognize long-time coach Sharman McAllister who created our cross country team a decade ago, and turned it into a perennial powerhouse team, holding the league championship banner for an astounding four years during her reign, and igniting a love for running in many of our athletes who continue to run in high school.
I was reminded of our coaches’ faithfulness again last Tuesday at our home hosted track meet. The meet is a lot of work to put on, but we had volunteers coming out of the woodwork to time races, help run shot put, run the concession stand, announce, take stickers at the finish line, help corral kids, apply sunscreen, and everything else that needed to happen to make the meet a success. The students really enjoy getting out and showcasing the abilities God has blessed them with, and it is so fun to have that last track meet as a final hurrah for the athletic season.
To help offset the costs of our athletic programs, which are not entirely funded by registration fees, we have our Eagle Classic Golf Tournament fundraiser coming up on Saturday, June 3rd. We have some awesome teams formed and will be taking applications for more teams through today, so there is still time to sign up and help support our athletics programs. We have some special guests this year in Slick Watts of Supersonic fame, Robin Earl of UW and Chicago Bear fame, and Mark Lee of UW and Green Bay Packer fame, so please come out to support our athletes and also to meet some local celebrities.
I pray that you have an amazing summer and come back ready in the fall as we kickoff our fall athletic season – flag football, volleyball, cross country, and a new sport for us at Hope, co-ed soccer.
