Thanksgiving Joy by Kristen Okabayashi
As much as I love Christmas, Thanksgiving is a close second to me for favorite holidays. I love it that it’s a holiday filled with family, friends, great food, board games, football, and celebrating what we are thankful for – how much better could it get? I am not a great cook or someone who really enjoys cooking that much, so one of the things I’m thankful for is a husband who loves to cook! But, I do enjoy baking, and I consider Thanksgiving food to fall into that category – it’s so comforting to roast that delicious turkey and stuffing, which is one of my specialties (good crusty bread and mushrooms are the key). Mashed potatoes and homemade gravy, yum! And then you rely on your guests to bring the harder menu items – the salads, sweet potato dishes, and desserts.
When I was growing up, my mom always had room for an “extra” at Thanksgiving time. Especially when I was in college and in my early 20s, I had always had a friend or two that was away from their family for Thanksgiving, and my mom would always welcome them warmly into our family. I try hard to recreate that, as this year we will host an eclectic group of family and friends and a couple of my oldest son’s “extras”. Somehow everyone all fits no matter how many we have over!
From our Hope family to you, may you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with joy and thanks; there is much to be thankful for.
2017 Fall Sports Write-up by Mr. Allen, Athletic Director
We just wrapped up a very exciting Fall sports season where we had students competing against their peers at other schools in cross country, volleyball, flag football, and (brand new to our league this year!!!) soccer. It truly takes a village of dedicated volunteers to make each of these teams successful, and I want to thank all of our coaches for their dedication to the students and helping them grow as athletes and as people. It was especially fun to watch the soccer team compete this year because it had such a wide variety of athletes playing, as it was open to 5th-8th grade boys and girls. We had numerous athletes on the team that had not had the ability to compete at Hope before, and it was amazing to watch them as athletes outside of the normal classroom environment. Here at Hope we pride ourselves with the numerous opportunities the students have to compete and this past fall was a wonderful example of this!

Hope Food Drive Results
Student Council would like to thank everyone who contributed to the school and church canned food drive. Our 4th grade class was our winner but with the help of all grades we collected 807 items of canned food! The food was sorted and weighed this past Sunday by students and Sunday school attendees and will be divided between the Hope Food closet and local food banks. Thank you for your gift of food!
