Grounded in Faith by Kristen Okabayashi, Hope Principal
Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV) 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Hope’s school theme this year is “Grounded in Faith”, based on the above verses from the book of Matthew in the bible. I LOVE this theme because it encourages us to be sure we are building our foundation on solid rock or solid ground (Jesus), not the shifting sands. It’s applicable to our students in many ways – are they basing their self-worth on what others’ are telling them, or are they basing their self-worth on the solidness of God’s loving view of them? He calls us His own. And it applies to us as teachers and parent as well – what are we building our foundation on and will it support us in a big storm?
Welcome to all of our families this year – we are so glad you are at Hope! It will be a fantastic school year.
Tuesday Newsletter & Communication Envelopes
Our newsletter is sent via email every Tuesday and will also be posted to our website at www.hopeseattle.org. Please notify the school office at 206-935-8500 if you require a hard copy. Our weekly newsletter is used for general announcements, calendar date changes or reminders, Parent Involvement Program (PIP) opportunities, sports, and much more! Other communication tools we utilize are Vertical Response, which goes out via email, and SchoolMessenger, which goes out via phone. Please ensure that your information is up-to-date for your family in our K12online portal. Each kindergarten through 8th grade homeroom will also send home a bright yellow communication folder with important school forms. Please sign the outside of the envelope, remove the contents and return the folder to your child’s homeroom. Do not place forms inside this envelope; instead, attach any forms returning to the school to the outside of the envelope.

Uniform Update
As we prepare for the coming school year, we want to share a uniform update with you. Dennis Uniforms is no longer carrying our blue plaid, and so we are switching to Lands End as our preferred uniform provider. Students may continue to wear the Dennis blue Harris plaid but we have added the classic navy plaid to our uniforms, available from Lands End. Students may purchase a zip-up sweatshirt with the Hope logo from Lands End, in addition to the styles already available. To order the approved uniform styles at Lands’ End click here and enter our school number: 900147711.
Uniforms may be purchased from other retailers in addition to Lands’ End (such as Target, Old Navy or French Toast), but must closely follow the school uniform guidelines or the styles already designated for Hope Lutheran School on the Lands’ End web site. Please refer to the uniform handout going home today.
School Uniform Drive
We have gently used uniforms that have been donated to the school and church. These are available to all families and are located in the school hall through September 14th. Please feel free to take what you need and/or to donate items your children no longer use. Please call the school office at 206-935-8500 with any questions.
We will be offering Rainbow Parrot Art workshops on Mondays and chess club on Tuesdays during 1st trimester. Watch for flyers to come home in your Tuesday communication envelopes during the next couple of weeks.
Chapel Offering Envelopes
Offerings are collected during our chapel services from the students using their weekly offering envelopes. Hope School continues to sponsor a child, Christopher Tano, through Compassion International. Your students offering envelopes will be sent home each Tuesday starting next week. These offerings allow students to develop a pattern of giving as part of their Christian lives and to share God’s love by supporting missions and charities. Therefore, we encourage students to give from their own money (allowance or other earnings).
Door Access System
We use a door access system to improve the safety of our campus. The front door will be unlocked during drop off and pick up times. During school hours our doors will be locked. Please use our door bell located to the left of doors to alert the front office then you will let you in. All parents need to sign in/out with the front office when entering during school hours.
Our preschool and Extended School Care families were given a PIN code to provide them with a more convenient way to access the building during program hours for pick up and drop off. PIN codes were activated today September 3rd. If you have questions about the system, you may contact the school office at 206-935-8500.
Parent Involvement Program or PIP Opportunities
Lunch and Recess Volunteers
Volunteers needed to assist in our lunchroom from 11:40 am-12:50 pm and our lunchtime recess from 12:00-1:05pm. If you can help with any of these times, please contact Shari Wallace at swallace@hopeseattle.org or (206) 935-8500.
