Buildings by Mary Norton, Third Grade Teacher
Students are like buildings. Buildings are like students. Over the last 2 ½ years, my husband and I sold our home in Arbor Heights, dreamed of moving closer to the beach, eventually planning, designing, and moving to our new house in Brown’s Point. We finally made it about a month ago. It started with an idea to gain a view near a beach. After all, I am a beach girl. We started with a meeting at Starbucks with a contractor, then blueprints with the architect. Patiently waited for permits from the city. The foundation was poured, and yet it still seemed unreal. Cabinets were chosen, flooring was chosen and the walls went up. The blueprint became the framework, floors, and walls, and roof. The house was complete.
Students are like buildings. We look forward to our own children and our students. We lay the foundation of faith and love, learning and growing. Third grade is a special time for students. The foundation is poured for higher learning. Third graders become independent readers. They relate addition to subtraction and multiplication to division. Third graders begin to write complete thoughts as complex sentences for the framework of reports, narratives, poetry, and songs. Their view of the world expands as they identify parts our earth as a relationship of systems and connect to our community.
A third grader’s faith grows stronger as they trust in Jesus as their Savior and friend in this daily walk. All of the experiences are part of the foundation and framing to become a learner, a friend, a citizen, a child of God. Students are like buildings.

The Iliad, The Odyssey, and All of Greek Mythology in 99 Minutes or Less
By Jay Hopkins and John Hunter
Nine tremendous actors will play 130 different roles as they race against the clock to present the full scope of Greek Myths, with predictably wacky results. SEE heroes compete for supremacy in front of a singing competition-style judging panel! Gods and Goddesses get into petty squabbles that have serious consequences for mankind! WATCH Achilles do nothing for most of The Iliad! AND MAYBE even get roped into some audience participation! All in under 100 minutes!
Performances will be November 15 at 7:30pm and November 17th at 2:30pm in the Menashe Gymnasium. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
