Kindergarten Update by Jennifer Neafcy
Every year, I look forward to meeting the new group of kindergarten students, and this year was no exception. It is a big transition moving from preschool to kindergarten. Our class is now a part of the “big” school, and as a result, students manage their own school supplies, complete work as a group and independently, eat lunch in the lunchroom with other grade levels, and have different teachers for specials such as art, music, and PE.
Kindergarten is a year of growth! Academically, kindergarten students will spend the year learning to write their letters and learning the sounds those letters make, eventually blending those sounds together to read words. They will expand upon their knowledge of numbers and counting to begin adding and subtracting numbers and to learn to read, write, and represent numbers up to 100. Socially, they will strengthen friendships, make new friends, work through conflict with others, and use words to express their needs and feelings. Spiritually, kindergartners will read stories from the Bible and sing songs that show how much they are loved by God and that share the message of the Gospel that Jesus died on the cross for the forgiveness of their sins. They will learn how these stories apply to their lives today.
There has been so much growth already since the beginning of the school year, and I am excited to be a part of their continued growth this year.
If you would like to know more about our kindergarten program including a new Transitional Kindergarten for fall 2024, please join us on November 7 for our Kindergarten Information Night at 6:30 PM.

This is a perfect event for parents interested in what kindergarten readiness looks like at Hope. Share with friends who are also curious about this big transition from preschool to kindergarten. Information will also be shared about Hope’s brand new Transitional Kindergarten class for fall 2024 for 4 year olds and 5 year olds. RSVP here.
All School Open House – November 14 @ 6:30 pm
We’re opening up the whole school to current and new families who would like to meet our teachers and students and see the main campus, including our new campus where our expanded middle school will be in Fall 2024. RSVP here.
Crosswalk Use
We have had a couple of incidents where students have been dropped off on the west side of 42nd Ave SW and tried to cross the street mid-block while cars speed past the pick-up line. Please drop off students only on the east side of the street and remind you students to always use the marked crosswalks when walking to school.
