We’ve Got You

Last Monday was a difficult day for me. On Sunday, our family said goodbye to our oldest son as he flew back to college. After 18 years of daily life together, that goodbye is still not easy. Also over the weekend, I learned that one of my high school friends had passed away from ALS.
When I shared this with my students on Monday and asked for patience, I was overwhelmed by the love and compassion they showed all week long. They checked in on me, stayed focused in class, and even prayed for me in their other classes. It felt as if they were saying, “We’ve got you.”
I was also deeply grateful for the kindness and support shown by my fellow faculty members and our administration, who consistently model care, understanding, and grace. I know this kind of compassion isn’t found everywhere. I am truly blessed to teach in a school community where families, faculty, and leadership value empathy, faith, and care for others—and where students help build a culture rooted in Christ’s love. As Scripture reminds us, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).
Weeks like this remind me just how special that is.
