Making Waves in Seaside
by Kristen Okabayashi, principal
Hope Lutheran School teachers had the opportunity to attend the LCMS Northwest District Teachers Conference in Seaside, Oregon from October 21-23. This annual gathering brings together Lutheran educators from across the Pacific Northwest for professional development, fellowship, worship, and encouragement. Our teachers participated in workshops and presentations that focused on strengthening classroom instruction, supporting student growth, and developing as Christian educators. As importantly, we connected with other Lutheran schools colleagues. Opportunities like this conference help our staff continue to learn, gather fresh ideas, renew their enthusiasm, and gain valuable classroom resources.
A highlight of the conference was celebrating several of our own Hope educators! We were especially thrilled to congratulate second grade teacher Jennifer Neafcy, who was honored with the district’s Distinguished Elementary Educator Award! This well-deserved recognition celebrates Jennifer’s exceptional teaching, leadership, and dedication to her students and colleagues. On particular nomination letter captured her impact beautifully: “Jennifer’s faith is as strong as the Cascades of the Pacific Northwest…She leads others by example and with strength, ready to jump into any situation when needed, while also showing compassion and grace for those staff or students who might be struggling. She embraces routine and structure while also allowing students the freedom to express themselves and feel safe in her classroom. Her years of teaching show in how she runs her classroom – with confidence and professionalism.”
We couldn’t agree more! Jennifer is a tremendous blessing to our Hope community and we are delighted to see her recognized for the difference she makes each day.
We also celebrated three of our veteran teachers who received special recognition for their years of service in Lutheran education:
Mairi Seraile – 20 years | Tim Caudle – 25 years | Mary Norton – 35 years
What an incredible legacy of dedication to education and the students and families they have served over the combined 80 years! We are grateful for all of our dedicated teachers and their commitment to growing both professionally and spiritually. Their passion for teaching, love for students, and faithful service is part of what makes Hope such a special place to learn and grow.
