Welcome Back to School BBQ Tonight! 5:00 PM
Come see your classroom and meet your teachers at 5:00 pm then meet in the playground at 5:25 pm for our ribbon cutting! Our annual back to school BBQ will be in the lower parking area behind the church and school from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. For those with last name beginning with A-H please bring a salad, I-P a side dish or appetizer, Q-Z a dessert in a disposable container if possible. We look forward to seeing everyone!
As we prepare for families to return, here is some updated information regarding the coming year:
Preschool – as shared previously, we are adding a new morning only pre-k class. This class will be located downstairs off the alley entrance to the school; hours are 8:15 to 11:15 AM. New teachers Mrs. Shelver and Mrs. Sonheim have been working hard with preschool director Mrs. Figgins to make this a very creative and engaging space for our 4 year olds!
K-8 Specialists – You may recall that Technology Director Mr. Jones had some health challenges last spring. While he is making a steady recovery, it has been slower than he was hoping. Our intention long term was to shift his focus into supporting technology that is happening in class instead of teaching students in a pullout computer lab; his slower recovery is causing this to happen in the short term instead. Mr. Jones will continue overseeing our technology program and providing support to all of us at Hope, but will no longer teach classes for now. In the meanwhile, we are blessed to have Music Director Mr. Franklin stepping in to offer two music classes per week instead of one to our K-5 students, and Mr. Allen will offer a technology elective to our middle school students.
Middle School – we have made some small scheduling changes to help our students receive a very strong academic experience. Mrs. Kunkel will now teach all middle school math, using some strategies she has worked on through the summer to teach regular math students with advanced math students. She will also teach 8th faith and electives. Mrs. Meyer will teach all the language arts as last year, along with 8th US History and a brand new mental/physical health class. Mr. Allen will teach all the science and will also be taking over 6th and 7th grade history. Mr. Goodspeed will of course lead our PE program, and we are thrilled to welcome Patra Mueller, who will teach our 6th and 7th grade faith. Some new electives will be offered also, to help challenge our students to reach their potential.
If you have any questions, please let us know tonight or via email or stop by the office; we will see you soon!

Chapel Offering Envelopes
Offerings are collected during our chapel services from the students using their weekly offering envelopes. Hope School continues to sponsor a child, Christopher Tano, through Compassion International. Your students offering envelopes will be sent home each Tuesday. These offerings allow students to develop a pattern of giving as part of their Christian lives and to share God’s love by supporting missions and charities. Therefore, we encourage students to give from their own money (allowance or other earnings).
Parent Involvement Program or PIP Opportunities
Lunch and Recess Volunteers
Volunteers needed to assist in our lunchroom from 11:40 am-12:50 pm and our lunchtime recess from 12:00-1:05pm. Volunteers will be working with a teacher or staff person and will provide our hard-working teachers with a designated lunch break each day. If you can help with any of these times, please contact Shari Wallace at swallace@hopeseattle.org or (206) 935-8500.
School Savings Day is Coming to Hope School
Every Monday starting September 10th, Mr. Savings (Larry Koltz) will be inside the main entry doors at 8:15 a.m. “Mr. Saving” will be offering a student savings account through LCEF (Lutheran Church Extension Fund). Students will be able to deposit money into the account through a Stamp program. Each stamp is worth $1.00. Once a student has $25 worth of stamps they can open their savings account. For three weeks (until September 24th) the first $12.50 invested will be matched with $12.50 by a member of Hope Church. The account currently pays 3.5% interest up to $1,000 until the student is 18 years old. They can also earn extra credit for good grades and service hours. Don’t wait; take advantage of the match and start saving on September 10th! For additional information contact Larry Koltz at 206.932.8036 or LLkoltz@aol.com.
