Kindergarten with Confidence! By Jennifer Neafcy, Kindergarten Teacher
Throughout my teaching ministry, I have taught almost every grade from preschool thru 8th grade. While I have enjoyed working with children of all ages, Kindergarten has become one of the grade levels that I have enjoyed the most. What a joy it is to work with these young children and watch them blossom and grow throughout the year. In the short time that I have spent with this year’s class, I have already witnessed these children become more confident and independent in their learning. They are eager to learn new things and to apply this learning to their daily lives.
Before each school year, I think about what I want the children in my class to experience and to learn during the year. First and foremost, I want all of my students to leave my classroom knowing the love and forgiveness of Jesus. I also want all of my students to have as many opportunities as possible for active learning. In our Kindergarten class, we are able to make this happen across the subject areas. During our literacy block, the class is moving through centers and completing activities that enable them to build words, strengthen their writing, and to think critically about stories they have read. In math, we use hands-on activities to teach number concepts. Our science curriculum provides the children opportunities to learn about their world using all of their senses. When learning about trees, we are outside gathering data. When learning about animals, we observe those animals in our classroom and learn more about how God created them.
Young children are active and have lots of energy! How wonderful it is that they can use that energy to be engaged in their learning. I am looking forward to watching how much this class learns and achieves this year!

Hope School Savings Day News: Thank you to those who have recently opened Young Investor accounts with the Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF). As of October 1, 2018, the state of Washington has made it prohibitive for LCEF and other church extension funds to allow any new investors. All current investments, including those who started investing in September 2018, are still in place and will continue to earn interest. Until further notice, Hope School Savings Day is cancelled. We apologize for this short notice change. For more information, a copy of the letter that was sent to churches from LCEF is available in the school office.
