Open House and Re-Enrollment by Kristen Okabayashi
Happy New Year! This fall and winter, our admissions director Sally Heit has been busy giving tours to prospective families. Did you know that typically over half of our visiting families come to tour our school because of a referral from YOU? We appreciate the good words and are thankful that you all are our greatest enrollment resource!
We have our biggest Open House of the year coming up next week on Tuesday, January 14th from 6:30-8:00 PM. In your communication envelopes just before Christmas break, we sent home two postcards with information regarding the Open House. Please feel free to invite people you may know who are interested in a small Christian education for their child (ren). We will offer information about our preschool, elementary, and middle school programs at Hope, along with tours and visits with the teachers. Thanks for spreading the word about our school; we so appreciate it!
Speaking of enrollment, in next Tuesday’s communication envelopes, we will send home re-enrollment information for next year. We will offer re-enrollment to current families (and siblings) through January 24, 2014, and then we will open up the remaining spaces to families in the community beginning January 27, 2014. We do anticipate full classrooms in several grades next fall, so please be sure to return the re-enrollment information by the due date.
THANK YOU!!!
Thank you so much to the families who sent in cards, treats, and other gifts to Mrs. Wallace and Mrs. Okabayashi for Christmas before the break and this week. We feel the love from all of you! Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

Admissions by Sally Heit
Happy New Year! I don’t know about you, but I enjoyed the Christmas break. I rested and have stored up energy to welcome new families to our All-School Open House! Reminder, don’t forget to refer your friends and family using your referral postcards handed out before the break. Every postcard received at the open house will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Metropolitan Market gift card! More postcards are available in the school office.
Thanks to these types of referrals our school continues to grow this year as we welcome the following returning students: Isaac F. (4th grade) and Gavin Z. (1st grade) as well as new students Zachary B. (2nd grade) and Da’zor T. (8th grade). Please extend a warm welcome to these students & their families.
I can always use help showcasing our school to potential families. It’s a great way to get PIP hours. Here are some areas that I could use help in:
-Childcare in the nursery for younger children up to age 4 (2 adults)
-Provide bake goods, cheese and crackers, etc. (deliver on Jan 14th)
-Meet and greet families
-Donate 1 or 2 small bouquets of flowers
Email Sally at sheit@hopeseattle.org if you can help in any of these ways. Thank you in advance!
Seahawk Support
Student council invites all students to celebrate the Seahawks’ football playoff game this Sunday with Seahawk Friday! This week on Friday, January 10, students may wear Seahawk apparel or Seahawk colors of blue and green to show support for our Hawks. This is an optional spirit day and students not wearing Seahawk apparel or colors will need to come in school uniforms as usual, as it is not a free dress day. Go Seahawks!
Influenza Season
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last week released a report regarding an increase in influenza, especially among young and middle aged adults. You can find more information online, but basically flu incidences are on the rise, and H1N1 has been the frequent culprit. The CDC is recommending flu shots for everyone aged six months and older. We have not seen a high number of cases here at Hope, but this is a reminder to keep your child home if they have any of the following symptoms:
- Temperature over 100 degrees
- Green or yellow discharge
- Vomiting or diarrhea in the past 24 hours
- Eye discharge (pinkeye)
- Unexplained skin rash
- Overall lethargy or just not feeling well
We have had several parents report having flu-like symptoms, so please take care of yourself too!
