WOH For Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014

Posted September 30, 2014 by Shari Wallace & filed under School Newsletter.

Outdoor Education by Tim Allen, 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher

Phew! I’m happy to report that all the 6th graders from Hope officially returned from Outdoor Education safe and sound and with no broken bones! This is a big improvement from last year were we had a student break his foot playing a rowdy game of bump in the first 5 minutes of camp!!! Each student had a wonderful time and I know they would all go back in a heartbeat if it meant spending more time with their friends and in the outdoor educational setting.

The students experienced many great things, including but not limited to: archery, horseback riding, visiting a salmon hatchery, doing a great bible study, and eating copious amounts of amazing food. One of the greatest parts of camp is each evening when we gather around a campfire and worship for about 45 minutes with some fun songs and a powerful testimony from the Band Teacher from Concordia Tacoma. Each of our students was impacted differently, but I know they each had multiple takeaways and learned ways they could grow in their daily lives and walks with Christ.

I hope these students were able to take to heart all the fun experiences they had while at Outdoor Education and carry this with them for the rest of their lives. I know God uses this experience to enrich the lives of our students and I am so glad I get the opportunity to lead them through this fun time in their lives. I cannot wait for next year’s trip already!

We will be hosting this fundraiser to kick-start a fund toward new school buses. Don’t get your trainers out just yet, we’ll be sending more details to come in the next few weeks. Volunteers needed for this event – check PIP Opportunities on website.

School Directories & Handbooks

Your 2014-15 school directory and handbooks will be coming home today with your oldest child. Please read through the handbook, sign the signature page and return to the school office. General information as well as school policies is covered in your handbook. Feel free to contact your homeroom teacher, the school office or Mrs. Okabayashi if you have any questions on our school policies.

October 14, 2014 – Child Safety Workshop @ Hope Lutheran School

We invite our school and church families as well as the community to attend a child safety workshop October 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm featuring child safety expert, Kim Estes from Savvy Parent Safe Kids. This is an event you don’t want to miss. Topics covered include sleepovers and play dates, cell phone use and safety, questions every adult should be asking, body safety, neighborhood safety, red flags parents need to watch for and the “Super 10” every kid should know plus so much more. Learn easy tips and tools that make safety fun, not scary. If you would like to be a greeter at this event, please email Sally Heit.
