8th Grade Inspiration by Kristen Okabayashi
Hope’s current 8th grade class is, in general, a class of students and families with fantastic minds and compassionate servant hearts. They are a class that all year long has asked “What can we do to help?” As a principal, I do tend to lean on our 8th graders to help with events such as the talent show and chapel services, and this class has risen to the challenge admirably.
In keeping with this mindset, the 8th graders wanted to make some type of lasting contribution to our school as they prepare to graduate. They had several discussions about this with homeroom teacher Mrs. Kunkel, and despite everyone’s busy schedule, they remained focused on wanting to give a cosmetic remodel to our upper floor school bathrooms, which is much needed.
Over this past weekend, the students and some parents began the process of measuring, painting, and refreshing our bathrooms. This project will have a lasting positive effect on our school and is such a wonderful way for them to give back to our Hope community! I am touched by it and so wanted to share it all with you.

Librarian Help Needed
We are so thankful to have had the leadership of Karin Roney, our volunteer librarian, over the past several years at Hope! The Roney family is moving to Maple Valley, leaving the position open for someone new. Our vision is to have someone commit 3-5 hours per week helping K-5 classrooms visit the library, and to have 2-3 other volunteers take time 1-2 hours per week shelving books, etc. A small stipend may be available for the librarian leader position. Please contact the school office if you are interested or would like more information.

Parent Involvement Program Ends May 31st

Please contact Mrs. Wallace if an extension is needed as all unfulfilled hours will be billed at $20 each, based on 1/4 hour increments.
Seeking Parents and Teachers of Hope (PTH) Board for Next School Year
PTH has two vacant positions for the 2016-2017 board. PTH is a great way to get to know other parents better, learn more about the inner workings of Hope, and feel good about providing support to students, parents, and teachers. You also earn PIP for serving on the board!
Other board members are available to train new board members and for questions throughout the year. There is just one meeting a month (August-May), three of which are General PTH meetings. Being a board officer will fulfill all of your PIP hours for an entire school year. Members-at-large generally earn up to 15 hours of their annual PIP by serving on the board. We are a small-budget PTH, so the board jobs are very manageable. Please contact PTH President, Sonjia Barker, at sonjiabarker@hotmail.com if you are interested and/or would like more info about serving on the PTH Board.
