Words of Hope for Jan. 17, 2017

Why Enroll at Hope? By Kristen Okabayashi

Today we send home re-enrollment information for the coming year. As our administrative team works together on that process, it always makes me think about the priorities at our school. With many good schools in the West Seattle area, why should you enroll at Hope?

In terms of academics, as you all know, we make changes and improvements each year to be sure we are meeting our students’ needs to the best of our ability. Hope graduates typically perform very well at the high schools of their choice, including last year’s 8th grade graduating class, of which four of the 13 graduates were recognized at their respective high schools with academic scholarships. Hope’s standardized test scores continue to rise, as we continue to strengthen our teaching skills and curriculum.

Another reason that I personally value Hope is the strong community feel of our school. Back when I was looking for a school for my own children, I visited probably 15 different schools without finding the school that seemed to “fit”. When I finally toured Hope, I breathed a sigh of relief (and my husband an even bigger sigh of relief!) because I knew I had found a gem of a school. As a parent of four small boys, I needed to feel that my kids would be taken care of, and when I toured, I could feel the love coming from the teachers (and Mrs. Wallace too). And when I say that our teachers care for the students, know that we really mean it. Last spring, a former student was unexpectedly in a tough situation with his home life. One of our Hope teachers took care of him for several weeks until eventually another Hope teacher became his legal guardian. While this situation is unusual, know that when your child is a student here, they become part of our family. Thank you for being part of our community!

Admissions is rolling out a new registration system through a company called K12 Online. We thank you in advance for your patience as we work out any glitches that come up through this process. If you have any problems at all, please call or email Sally Heit in the school office. The link to register is in your information, however we have listed it here as well: https://secure.k12online.us/hope-lutheran-school

Lutheran Schools week is next week – January 22 – 27

The National theme for this year is “Upon this Rock” focusing on building our lives on the Rock of Jesus Christ. The week will begin on Sunday morning with the children singing in our worship services.   All week the students will participate in an online mission trip to Madagascar produced by Lutheran Hour Ministries. Students will also participate with a “Homeless Food Bag” service project throughout the week. On Wednesday, Jan. 25, we will have a joint chapel service at Seattle Lutheran along with Concordia Lutheran School and Seattle Lutheran High School. We will end our week passing out baked goods to share with our neighbors. It is going to be a great week! Thanks for your participation and support!

Hope Family Movie Night – 1/28

Got Cabin Fever?? We have the anecdote for these cold winter nights – Hope Family Movie Night! Pizza, popcorn, and snacks provided – we’ve got you covered! Suggested donation of $10 per family. Brought to you by PTH to support more learning and more fun (and more parental sanity!) at Hope! Project Update – 4439 41st Ave SW

You may have noticed that the single family home at 4439 41st Ave SW (behind Hope School) was torn down this week. The proposed development on that site will include 1 single family home and 2 town homes along the alley behind Hope School and 4 row houses along 41st Ave SW. Permits have been obtained for the single family and town houses on the western portion of the site. This revised proposed development is a welcome change from the 40 unit development that was originally proposed for the site. We thank God for this favorable outcome. When we receive further information about this project, we will share it.
