WOH For Tuesday, February 15, 2022
LEST by Tim Allen, 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher and Hope LEST Coordinator
LEST (Lutheran Elementary Schools Tournament) is traditionally the Thursday through Saturday before Presidents Day, and is often the highlight of the year for 5th-8th graders from around the Northwest! It started over 50 years ago at Concordia University, Portland, as a small tournament of just volleyball, and morphed to include many different competitions over the years.
Unfortunately, the February 2020 event was the last Tournament able to be hosted by the University as it shut down after that school year. Thankfully, a dedicated group of individuals would not let LEST go away, and last year during the spring a smaller virtual version was hosted due to the Pandemic. This year, we are fortunate enough to have a live and in person competition, hosted partially by Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. It will still be smaller than the traditional Portland ones, but we are so excited to be able to compete!
Hope’s 5th through 8th grade students are competing in the following events this Thursday through Saturday: Basketball, Spelling, Swimming, Knowledge Bowl, Math, Art, Creative Writing, Science, and Music. We also get to nominate and honor one eighth grader as Hope’s Champion of Character. Some events are open to the public to view while others are strictly for the competitors. A full schedule and much more information can be found online at https://lestnorthwest.org/. We hope to see some of you there cheering on the Eagles!

Mentors Needed for SLHS Robotics Team
Seattle Lutheran’s Robotics Team is looking for parents/family members who work(ed) in the fields of STEM to be mentors. In particular, they need someone to head up the CAD division, such as a Mechanical engineer. Hours would go towards PIP hours and would help inspire young adults by giving them the tools to become well-rounded leaders and to strengthen innovations in science & technology in the future. For questions and inquiries please email Jeff Norton at jnorton@seattlelutheran.org
The Spring Musical is Looking for Costume Volunteers
The Seattle Lutheran High School drama department is seeking people with sewing experience who are interested in helping make costumes for The World According to Snoopy! The primary time commitment for this project would be mid-February through mid-April. All expenses for materials would be reimbursed. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact Mrs. Zandi at mzandi@seattlelutheran.org.
