Turn! Turn! Turn! By Mairi Seraile, Orcas Pre-Kindergarten Teacher
On Monday mornings the Orca Class takes a quick hike up to the music room where we greet our lovely music teacher Mrs. Brown. In our Pre K music class, we learn about old composers and the differences in the instruments used in the musical piece she introduces to us. We are then invited to pick from a colorful scarf collection and move whimsically through the sounds, being reminded to notice how each instrument creates a changing emotion. Needless to say, we all look forward to starting our week together learning about not only our changing emotions because of music but even more, the gifts God grants to those who compose such a masterpiece.
It was a few Mondays back that I experienced an epiphany because of the music selection that morning. We switched gears from the Classical genre to a good old 1965 classic rock song, based off of the Bible verse from Ecclesiastes 3 and written by the Byrds: Turn! Turn! Turn! Although the Orca students had never heard this song before, being 4 & 5 years old they carried on dancing freely with smiles and excitement, their colorful scarves floating through the air as they acted out the words turn, turn, turn. I’m sure most of us are familiar with the rest of the lyrics to that tune:
“There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under Heaven”
One of the Bible verses the Orca Class recites each day during our group meeting is Hebrews 13:8 – Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And my Epiphany was this: as I danced around with my colorful scarf mimicking some of the creative moves of my students I remembered that I once was that little 4 & 5 year old girl dancing with my teachers here at Hope. I now in my adult season in life find strength and comfort in this truth, having been taught that same unchanging message. Jesus’ love for all of us never changes. It stays the same forever through life’s turns and seasons. Now, being a teacher here at Hope I joyfully serve this one purpose, to share the love of Christ with students in a creative and colorful fashion.
Hebrews 6:19- We have this HOPE as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.

Chapel Offerings
The chapel offering is collected during our weekly Wednesday chapels. Students will find offering envelopes in the weekly Yellow Envelopes.
Thank you for your chapel offering donations during the months of January and February! $360 was raised for the Welcome Table, and was sent to Westside Interfaith Network. The Welcome Table is located in White Center and provides hot meals, toiletries, clothing, and other necessities to those in need.
For the months of March and April, offerings will go to Heifer International. Heifer International is on a mission to end hunger and poverty in a sustainable way by supporting and investing alongside local farmers and their communities. It begins with a seed investment of livestock or agriculture, followed by mentorship to help project participants build a business, and ultimately gain access to supply chains and markets. Some of the livestock that can be purchased are heifers, goats, sheep, chicks, and honeybees. We have set a goal of $500 to purchase a heifer. Any additional offerings will be used to purchase additional animals.
