Christmas Happenings! by Kristen Okabayashi, Hope Principal 

We hope this newsletter finds you well as we prepare our hearts (and houses!) to celebrate the birth of Jesus! As the holiday season is upon us, we would like to wish everyone a joyous and blessed Christmas!

This week will be filled with exciting celebrations centered around the birth of Jesus. We are delighted to share some highlights from our school:

K-4 Christmas Program: Tonight, Tues, 12/10; 6:30pm K-4 students will open their Christmas Program with 4th graders as the dramatic actors, and K-3 being their background singers. It will be a beautiful night that puts us all in the Christmas spirit! 

Preschool-TK Nativity:, Fri, 12/13; 6:30pm Preschool-TK students will put on a creative rendition of the Nativity scene, based on the book The Friendly Beasts, Students will parade into the sanctuary dressed in nativity costumes, angels and animals and serenade us with the sounds of His stable. .

5th -8th Grade Performance: Tues, 12[17; 7:00pm Our students will spread holiday cheer through beautiful instrumental songs and a variety of vocal performances.

Thurs, 12/12- Wed, 12/18 our Student Council will be selling Santa Grams at both campuses in the morning at arrival time. Send your loved one a special message, attached to a candy cane. The messages will be delivered to their classrooms on Fri, 12/20.

Lastly, Hope Christmas Dress-up Days are beginning next week. Please look under School Events to stay up on the latest. Join in the fun of the season!

SCHOOL NEWS

Admissions

As we approach the holiday season I want to remind parents that re-enrollment for Fall 2025 will start in January. I’ll have more information for you as we get closer to that time. We are excited to offer preschool parents up to 48 full time spots in preschool and PK next year as well as 16 in transitional kindergarten. We encourage you to share with friends who also might be looking for full day preschool or transitional kindergarten and invite them to tour our program or attend our Preschool and TK open house January 14th at 6:30 pm.

Little Coders: Intro to Coding (grades K-2, Mondays 3-4 pm

Tailored for early readers, this course helps students boost their computational thinking while having fun with friends! Beginners learn coding basics like Loops and Conditions. Returning students tackle new challenges, such as debugging. All students build exciting games, stories, and animated characters.

Scratch: Game Development (grades 3-5, Thursday 3-4 pm)

Unleash your creativity with Scratch, a fun drag-and-drop coding tool. Learn coding basics like loops and variables if you’re new, or explore advanced concepts like functions and game physics if you’re returning. Build exciting games, animations, and story projects, like the Greedy Birds!

Hope’s Giving Tree is coming close to completion, Thank you all for your generous support and time. Watch for an update in next week’s newsletter. 

Hope Christmas Dress-up Days Coming
Student Council is excited to sponsor spirit days coming up December 16-20! Show your school and community spirit by dressing up in the theme for each day. Students not wearing spirit day apparel must be in school uniforms except for Dec 20 which is a free dress day.

Dec 16 – Christmas Morning (Christmas pajamas and robes)
Dec 17 – Christmas Tree Toppers and Mistletoes (Christmas socks and tights, hats, headbands, antlers, or that type of thing with school uniform)
Dec 18 – Christmas Colors (Wear Christmas colors)
Dec 19 – Christmas Card Day (Christmas ugly sweaters)
Dec 20 – Christmas Explosion (all Christmas colors, themes, characters, etc.- go all out!)

Santa Grams – Sold Dec. 12-18

Student Council will be selling Santa Grams Dec. 12-18 before school at both campuses. Santa Grams will be sold for $1 per Santa Gram or 3 for $2. These are special messages that can be given to peers, teachers, or family members. They are then attached to a candy cane and delivered to classrooms on Friday, December 20th. Merry Christmas from your Student Council.

 Bible Study for Moms: Thursdays, 8:30-10:00- in the Youth Room. Everyone welcome.  Stop by for coffee from 8:30-9:00.  Contact Amy Kopecky at akopecky@hopeseattle.org.  

CLUB 45 will meet once a month on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm including dinner.  Contact patramueller@hopeseattle.org.

PARENTS & TEACHERS OF HOPE  (PTH)

Tues, 12/17- PTH Auction Meeting from 6:30pm – 7:30pm in the View Room. Come help us plan our auction and earn your PIP hours! (Auction will be on March 9, 2024) There are many opportunities to work from home as well.  The Auction Committee meets on Tuesdays (unless otherwise posted).

Fri, 12/13-  Class Art Project ,Class Baskets Themes and Parent Volunteer(s) due: The auction committee needs your help. Each class has been tasked with creating a CLASS ART PROJECT and assembling a CLASS BASKET that will be auctioned off. Both are huge contributors to the overall impact of the auction, and we couldn’t do it without your help! Early bird Auction tickets go on sale starting: January 9th till January 10th

The Aloha Auction is happening on March 8, 2025 and preparations have begun. Every Thursday the PTH will send out a weekly newsletter. It will contain helpful information and links.   Early Bird pricing of $70.00 per ticket will ONLY last for two days!

Logging PIP hours is very easy. 

1. Parents log into their GradeLink account

2. Click on Service Hours tab

3. Enter information of activity, time spent and who the organizer/initiator/supervisor was. This could be a teacher, Tammy, Sally, Melanie (PTH),  etc. 

4. Once entered it is approved by the office. 

Lunch/Recess helpers still needed for middle school:

We are looking for volunteers to help out at the middle school lunch and recess. All days need covering, with the exception of Thursdays. We are looking for volunteers who can help out once or twice a week from 12:20-1:00pm. Please email Ms Mead at smead@hopeseattle.org.

Hope’s Giving Tree – Thank YOU to everyone who gave to Giving Tree!  Many children and families in our West Seattle community will experience joy this Christmas because of your generosity. 

The final Journey Discipleship Pathway class of the year will be held at the North campus this Wednesday, December 11 as part of CONNECT, 7-8:30PM (with dinner provided at 6:30) to help equip you as you lead your children. Pastor Peter will be leading a class on the world changing story of Martin Luther and the origin of various Christian denominations.
