Continuing a Legacy by Hope Pastor Peter Mueller

This week is National Lutheran Schools Week! This is a week to celebrate our Hope School and  to give thanks for the nationwide family of Lutheran schools we are connected to. Hope is one of 1600 early childhood centers and preschools serving more than 100,000 children from infants to 5-year olds. Our elementary and middle school is one of more than 800 such schools serving approximately 78,000 students nationwide. There are also about 120 Lutheran high schools and 7 universities that our school is connected to. The first Lutheran schools was started 177 years ago outside of St. Louis, Missouri by German immigrants fleeing religious persecution in Europe.

What is it that has fueled the growth of these schools and sustained their life for so long? It’s a combination of two things: a desire for children everywhere to know they are deeply loved by God and a desire for children to be well-educated so they can read God’s Word in the Bible, to learn about the world they live in, and to be equipped to love their neighbors as themselves. We want our students to become people who make a difference in this world by serving others with depth of knowledge, skill, and character. We want our students to embody the love that God has shown to humanity through the death and resurrection of His son Jesus for us all.

I’m so glad that you and your family are part of this amazing school and the larger and deeply rooted tradition it’s connected to. I hope and pray that you and your child(ren) experience the breath-taking depth of God’s love for you as your child(ren) receives an excellent education in preparation for service to our world!
