LEST 2024 by Kristen Okabayashi, Principal
The annual Lutheran Elementary Schools Tournament is now complete! As with other years, this three day tournament of events was so much fun. Our students represented themselves well at LEST and brought home many award, and you can see this in the award page coming home today. Congrats to our students!
More than the events though, what impacts me the most are the little things that happen along the way. For example, the Thursday morning boys basketball game was the first tournament game at one of the gyms, and when we arrived, the gym was not ready for us as there had been some type of miscommunication around the start time. No problem, our Hope families jumped in right away and helped set up for the game and one parent even kept the game clock on his phone until the actual scoreboard arrived.
Our amazing cheer squad showed up for every single boys and girls basketball game, in addition to competing at their own event, including one of the 8th grade girls, Angelina, who both cheered and played a key role on the girls basketball team!
I felt super proud of our student competitors who are consistently the ones helping another player up and giving each event their all. We have a wonderful school community of kids, adults, and teachers; thank you for being part of our Hope family!

SCHOOL NEWS
MAP Results K-8
Three times per year, K-8 students at Hope take Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). As a teaching staff, this helps us understand how each student is progressing in math and language arts skills, and how to help students continue to push themselves to reach their potential. For us as teachers and you as parents/guardians, it is useful information and also it is important to acknowledge that the test is a measure of one moment on one day and part of the evaluation process.
Winter test results will be sent home in today’s yellow communication envelope. If you have questions, please reach out to your student’s teacher.
Applesauce Caps Needed
Mr. Sleighter is collecting the green ROUND (looks like fat a wheel) applesauce caps for a project. If you have any caps, please send them in a baggy to the main office.
Talent Show
Lights, camera, action…it is time to apply for the Hope Talent Show!!! Applications are included in today’s yellow envelopes. You may choose from 3 different audition days.
Academic Fair
Academic Fair Assignment For All Students
Here’s some big news! The annual Academic Fair returns Tuesday April 23 at 7:00 PM. This year we are doing a geography fair. So, what is a geography fair? It’s a lot like a science fair. All the instructions and guidelines will be in the Tuesday Yellow envelope today. The completed project will come to school the day of Monday, April 22 so classrooms can be set up. We expect all students to attend and browse all the projects in the whole school. Maybe you will see one of your favorite places to travel to!
