Outdoor Education at Miracle Ranch by Kristin Gimelli Hemme, Middle School Teacher

I recently had the privilege and opportunity to participate in the Outdoor Education trip with the 6th grade class. We traveled to Miracle Ranch near Port Orchard, WA for three wonderful days of adventures, education, and worship with five other Lutheran schools from the Puget Sound area.

Hope students joined study groups with students from the other Lutheran schools to rotate through activities including archery, horseback riding, arts and crafts, a nature walk, the salmon hatchery, a ropes course, boating, and bible study. Students also enjoyed free time when they could choose from many different activities including boating, swimming, ping pong, pool, volleyball and other games.

Each night we joined around a campfire to sing silly songs, praise God, pray, and worship outside under the stars. What an amazing way to enjoy God’s beautiful creation!

It was great to see Hope students learning new things, playing games, and making friends.  This trip provided a great opportunity for students to get to know their own classmates better and to make new friends with students from other schools.

A big thank you to our four wonderful parent volunteers who served as chaperones on this trip and to Ms. Stacy Robertson for organizing this trip and arranging the logistics!

SCHOOL EVENTS

Fall Olympics: Fri, 10/4; 1:00pm; Gym – New Date!

Fall Olympics are coming up Friday, October 4th at 1:00 PM. Students should arrive at school dressed in their team color. If they are not sure which color is their color, you may check with your child’s teacher or the school office. For this spirited day, students may wear light face paint and/or washable hair spray if they choose (no full-face paint). Extra accessories in the team color are not necessary but are encouraged, such as colored necklaces, hairbands, bandanas, etc.

Students are mixed up into different teams with K-8 students together. Fall Olympic events include a 3 legged race, a slow bicycle race, a paper airplane toss, and many other events. One student per team has volunteered to participate in the slow bicycle race, so that person should come to school with a bike and helmet, which they can lock outside on the bike rack or inside the school lobby.

Family members are invited to cheer on our students from the gym bleachers. Fall Olympics will be held at the north campus gymnasium at 4100 SW Genesee St.

6-Week Bible Study for Moms: Thursdays, starting 9/19/24

“Reclaiming Motherhood: Embracing the Untamed Beauty, Fun, Passion and Vitality of Motherhood”

Mom-ming is a beautiful gift, but do you ever feel like you need superhuman strength for the long days? If you’re experiencing the struggle of trying to hold it all together by yourself, you’re not alone—and you’re not meant to do it alone! Starting September 19th, join this mom’s community after drop-off on Thursdays at 8:30 for coffee and pastries with Bible study from 9:00-10:00. We’ll dive into God’s Word together for encouragement, connection, purpose, and of course, your morning caffeine boost 🙂 Register here: https://hopeseattle.churchcenter.com/groups/linkhope-groups/reclaiming-motherhood

CLUB 45 will meet once a month on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm including dinner. All 4th and 5th grade students are welcome for an evening of games, food, prayer and time in God’s Word. Mark your calendars: October 9, November 20 & December 4. Parents watch your email for more information. Would you like to volunteer? Contact patramueller@hopeseattle.org.

Chapel Offerings for September and October: Each week, when we gather for chapel, we collect a chapel offering. A small yellow offering envelope will be going home in the Tuesday Yellow Envelope today. Our chapel offerings are used to support ministries and those in need, locally and globally. Hope will be supporting 5 different organizations this year through chapel offerings. For the months of September and October, chapel offerings will be donated to the K-9 Comfort Dog program through Lutheran Church Charities.

Interested in Confirmation or growing in your faith? On Wednesday, October 9th at 7PM at Hope North campus (after 6:30 dinner in the gym) we will have a parent and youth informational meeting, and I will lead you through the Journey Journal. Then Patra will take over and lead the first of our Journey Discipleship Pathway classes. The Journal consists of 55 short lessons. But don’t think of this as “something we have to get through,” rather think of it as 55 intentional conversations I get to experience with my son or daughter. Likewise, if you’re a youth, think of it as, “this is dedicated time with my mom, dad, guardian, or mentor that I get to spend answering all my questions about faith and life.” If this makes you nervous as a parent, don’t worry, we have an incredible Discipleship Pathway to accompany you along this way. This Pathway is 8 classes taught by Pastor Peter, Patra Mueller, Jennifer Neafcy, Amy Kopecky and Jonathan Kopecky. We are also hoping to bring in a professional from the community. Each of these classes will be geared toward our vision of “Helping You Grow as a Parent and a Follower of Jesus – a discipleship plan for all parents, guardians and mentors.” We would also love for any grandparents, or mentors in our church, that love youth and want to grow as a mentor.

Interested in just joining for the classes? That’s okay too!

The Journey Discipleship Pathway Series classes will be held on Wednesday nights during CONNECT, 7-8:30PM (with dinner provided at 6:30) to help equip you as you lead your children.

Here’s the plan:

October 9- Patra Mueller – “Spiritual Parenting.”

October 16- PAUSE due to Fall Break

October 23- Jonathan Kopecky – “Inviting the Spirit to Lead.”

October 30- Amy Kopecky – “Praying With Your Kids.”

November 6- Jonathan Kopecky – “The Youth Culture.”

November 13- Pastor Peter – “How The Bible Came to Be”

November 20- Pastor Peter – “Church History and Your Part.”

December 4- Jennifer Neafcy –  “What Does This Mean?”
