Fourth Grade News!
By Jennifer Neafcy, 4th Grade Teache
In 4th grade, students build on the foundational skills they’ve developed from Kindergarten through 3rd grade, applying them to new learning experiences. A prime example is their journey with long division. By applying prior knowledge and division facts they’ve practiced, they approached long division with growing confidence. After a week of long division, the talk in the classroom shifted from being frustrated with division to loving and becoming more confident doing it.
Our 4th graders also thrive on collaboration, whether they’re conducting science investigations, engaging in partner or group reading, participating in hands-on math activities, or working on collaborative projects and presentations. This teamwork fosters leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, encouraging students to take ownership of their own learning and that of the other students in their group.
Reflecting on their achievements this year, 4th graders highlighted:
- Science investigations on shadows and moon phases
- Creating collaborative Google slide presentations about the regions of Washington State
- Leading chapel
- Composing personal narratives and typing them into Google Docs
- Learning typing skills
- Mastering long division and factors in math
- Our Bible curriculum and memory work journals
- Participating in community service through litter patrol
- Reading to the TK classroom every Friday
As you can see, our 4th graders are actively engaged in a variety of enriching activities. I’m eager to continue supporting their academic, emotional, and spiritual growth throughout the school year.
