Fruits of the Spirit by Christina Figgins, Preschool Teacher and Director
In the Sea Star Preschool Class we practice the “Fruits of the Spirit”. Ask any of our preschoolers and they will rattle off the song for you. They will also remind you when you are NOT using your fruits of the spirit. Here are some examples of how we practice them in our class.
LOVE – Early February we had a Post Office in our classroom and we practiced making and writing our names on Valentine cards. We also talked a lot about loving. We are all learning to love one another even when we feel frustrated. We also talk daily about how God lives in our hearts.
JOY – If you ever need to smile come to the Sea Star class. They are pure joy! Not only do they make me smile, they make me laugh every day! A child fell over and said, “I’m ok, I know martial arts.”
PEACE – When you walk into our room you might think it sounds loud and looks chaotic. This is Sea Stars busy figuring out their world through play. Pure peace is kids at play, getting along with each other and trying things out on their own.
PATIENCE – We use a 3 minute sand timer to wait for a turn. This is a great tool and the kids know how to get it on their own and wait. Waiting for snack time can be hard though.
KINDNESS – Our class talks about and works on being kind every day. We talk about how we treat our friends, and if we are not kind how that will make them feel. Feelings are big in preschool and they are important!
GOODNESS – “Bad is not good to do,” said by one of our Sea Stars. We all want to do the right thing (be good). Even when the kids do something they shouldn’t, we talk about forgiveness – the goodness of God. These kids are a reminder of the wonderful goodness in our world!

SERVICE PROJECT SUPPORT
My name is Dominic Caudle and I am an 8th grader here at Hope Lutheran School. I am doing a service project to raise funds for Music4Life, a non profit dedicated to getting musical instruments into the hands of kids in need at various public schools throughout the greater Seattle area. I have started a GoFundMe page and the West Seattle School of Rock will offer opportunities to donate at their concert at the Hard Rock Cafe on March 25 from 2:00-4:00.
I am passionate about this because I’ve always loved music, and a lot of that was due to the people who were kind enough to donate instruments to me. Since the musical community was so kind to me, I wanted to give back. I would love it if you consider donating. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
